The United States began to push the Japanese back in a serious of major land and sea battles. The Japanese had plans of evading neighboring nation, and wanted to prevent the United States from interfering. They saw the U.S. navy as a threat since they had most of their fleet stationed at Hawaii. On December 7, 1941 the Japanese fleet launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in aim to strike a devastating blow to the U.S. fleet. The Japanese where successful in crippling the U.S. navy, but did not damage or sink their aircraft carriers.
Rough Draft #1 Battle of the Coral Sea was an air and naval engagement between the U.S. fleet and Japanese invasion force. “It was the world’s first all-carrier battle, and the first sea battle which neither side could see each other” (Pacific Aviation). The Battle of the Coral Sea helped the Battle of Midway (occurred on the following month)by destroying 2 Japanese carrier ships (Shokaku and Zuikaku.) The battle thwarted the invasion of Port Moresby to July 3 1942 (until the Battle of Midway settle the invasion). Japanese forces had been planning to invade Port Moresby in New Guinea.
In 1941, the battle of Hong Kong took place when the Japanese Imperial Army attacked Hong Kong. This attack focuses on Shing Mun Redoubt, which was a defense line for the British in Hong Kong that fell to the Japanese. The reason why Shing Mun Redoubt fell is debatable, as some believe that the Japanese were simply just too strong, but other believe that it was the lack of strength in the Ally’s defense line was the cause of this fall. Both of these reasons were supported by evidence, but to come to a complete conclusion, we will have to see which of these two reasons has the most evidence. Japan attacked Hong Kong as it was under Britain, which were their enemies, and it would be a jab to them if they lost, and the Japanese were on a train ride, with every stop being another success; after winning against China, a huge country, Hong Kong didn’t seem like a strong opponent.
Within 10 weeks, Japan had dominated Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaya and Rabaul. The biggest town in north of Australia was Darwin which was a key defensive position against an aggressive Japan. Darwin was going to be a base for naval and air operations against the war in south east Asia. The intention of the attack was to scare Australia to become neutral in the war. According to Jack Mulholland who was 20 and a Australian veteran in the war the bombing of Darwin was a battle they weren 't prepared for, no one knew how to use any weapons and didn 't have any proper training.

The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the bloodiest battles of World War Two. Iwo Jima had air stips that both the United States and the Japanese wanted to help them during World War Two. This battle did not end up going exactly as planned for either country. Both countries had their own strategy but neither succeeded. The Battle of Iwo Jima is an important battle to know about when discussing World War Two.

Intro Paragraph: “The [Iwo Jima] campaign had become one more akin to the First World War - a war of attrition.” (Operation). Iwo Jima was a small, insignificant island in the middle of the ocean. To the north was Japan and to the south was the Mariana Islands, which was controlled by the US. What occurred at the Battle of Iwo Jima, between February 19, 1945 and March 26, 1945, was much like a losing chess match. After some point both sides know who will win.
December 7th, 1941 is a day changed the lives of all Americans. It is the day Japan deliberately attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii killing many U.S. soldiers and destroying a lot of the U.S. naval fleet. This day which turned the tide of World War II, up until this point the U.S. had not chosen to intervene in the conflict overseas, but Japan’s attack had given the U.S. a reason to enter the fight. This speech given by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on December 8th, 1941 was his own passionate plea to the U.S. government and people to support the U.S. entering the war and fighting back against the tyranny occurring overseas. President Franklin D. Roosevelt effectively appeals to the emotions of the U.S. population by establishing trust with his audience through the use of emotional diction, and repetition which allow him to rally support for the war effort.
There were three primary targets that the Japanese fighters intended to destroy: the United States’ Pacific Fleet Carriers the U.S.S. Lexington, the U.S.S. Enterprise, and the U.S.S. Saratoga. Luckily, these carriers were not in the harbor at the time of this attack, thus escaping the carnage.
Roosevelt. It was December 7, 1941 when the United States was deliberately attacked by air and naval forces of Japan. The Japanese targeted Pearl Harbor which is located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The Japanese naval forces caught America completely off guard. The Americans believed that the harbor was too shallow for an attack by torpedoes dropped from airplanes because the required depth for it to be possible is about 75 feet and Pearl Harbor is approximately 45 feet deep.
The unknown to the japaneses, the Allied of codebreakers had learned enough about the enemy’s. So the enemy’s discern the japanese plans in time for the Allied fleets to assemble in the Coral Sea. Frank J. Fletcher he commanded American task forces, including the two large aircraft carriers and the other ships, then a British-led cruiser force mounted surface opposition. Then the Allied land-based bombers, turned back to Rabaul. So by May 1st, the conquest of Phillipines, Burma, Mayala and the Dutch East Indies had cost the Japanese Navy only 23 warships and none had been larger than a destroyer.
On December 7th of 1941, an attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese changed the course of history of the United States and the world. This attack on an American naval facility claimed a staggering 2,403 lives and wounded 1,178 others forcing the United States’ formal entrance into World War II. I was very fortunate to visit and participate in a South Washington County ISD 833 group band performance at this historic site, in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. While visiting this monument, I learned about the significance of this International aggression on the American soil. This attack symbolized a threshold point for Americans from just offering support to the Europeans to becoming actively involved in the war.
They supplied Britain, Soviet Union and China with war materials and even deployed troops to Iceland, relieving Britain soldiers. However, the sanctions against Japan only outraged them leading to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Americans were entering the war by joining the RAF Squadron in Britain. On December 7, 1941 a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese changed
