When I graduated from high school college did not cross my mind. I wanted to join the Marine Corps and serve my country for as long as I could because both my grandfather and uncle we’re both in the Navy. But since complications happened I ended up in Massasoit. I chose Massasoit because it has one of the best transferring programs and has the major I wanted to get into which is Early Childhood Education. When I applied for Massasoit I did not know much about community college, I just thought that it’ll be similar to highschool which is not at all I what I learned. Since most of my friends are going to community colleges I thought that it would be better for me to go to community college instead of University. Seeing that most students go
I chose to attend community college in the United State because of two reasons. First, I am an international student. My purpose is not only school but also new cultural. I do not want I become a person who have high knowledge but without any experiments. I think, “If I choose community college to begin my study in the United State, I will have more time to learn about the habits and customs of the US” and I am happy because I did that decision. Beside the school, I can take part in clubs, I can improve my English skill and I can be stronger. Second, I can help my parents to save a lot of money. I try to get high GPA at community college so I could get scholarships for my
Twelve percent of high school graduates are unable to attend college due to their own personal reasons(Rath). Even if the do want to go to college they cannot because they can’t afford to do so, so instead they try to take on low paying jobs. By making community college free not only does it help reduce student loans, it can greatly improve the unemployment rate, improve education. Not only that but it also can bring people out of poverty and even give rise to an educated workforce(Rehm). With free community college many American citizens can get the education they need to improve their lives as well as the economy(Miller). If college education does not become free then America will be heading towards a downward spiral because only a select
I hope to begin making payments on those loans which I fully intend to pay back once I have completed my studies and reach a stable income. I think my academic records show that I 'm committed to my studies until my time at Portland State University is complete. The art and design I create is part of me, if I were to back out now everything I achieved up to this point would be moving in the wrong direction. The truth is getting here has been a long struggle and there has been many ups and downs along the way. I promise to keep fighting until the end because I know in my heart this is what I want to do with my life.
It has taken many years for people in society to break out of the norms and expectations of how to grow up and live in the world. A huge factor in this “revolution”: attending college. Whether it is taking a gap year to discover the world and the waiting opportunities, or simply running with it all after high school to work, attending college isn’t considered a given anymore. Now not all cases are the same for every person, therefore they can only decide what is the best path for them after high school. Still, the benefits of a being a college graduate will never be diminished. Because in fact, that “gap year” could turn into two or even three years of sitting and deciding what to do in life. Or jumping right into working right after high school, leads to realizing there aren’t many jobs to provide and support oneself. Although many may continue to believe that attending college right after high school isn’t the right path for success, taking advantage of gaining a college education right away is essential for success in life because college broadens job and career opportunities and provides necessary experiences to thrive in the real world after school.
Although the argument against free community college is reasonable, opponents of this argument raise numerous positive points. The most obvious benefit of free college is that college attendance will increase. By increasing college attendance, America will become a much more developed and educated society. Everyone benefits when the population becomes more knowledgeable. Additionally, another critical benefit in favor of free community college is the fact that people will graduate with little to no debt. Graduating without debt will allow people to be more financially free. Graduating without debt will encourage people to spend their money elsewhere, possibly to buy a house or a new car. This increased spending will help all areas of the economy. In addition, higher skilled people will enter the work force which will give them more opportunities. The benefits of attending a free community college would greatly outweigh the small amount of time it takes to get a degree from a community college.
Picking to attend a Community college for me is the best choice that I picked for my education. Community colleges provide a great service to students in many more ways other than just education. They help students who are unsure what they want to do or are unable to attend a four year university. Community Colleges also provide continuing education even after they have gotten a degree and a job.
Every student, after he or she graduates from high school will have the choice of attending to a University or a two year Community College. I remember Lee, my friend Joe’s brother, asking me after I finished high school and whether or not I wanted to join to a University or a two year Community College. At the time, it took me a week to answer his question. Similarly, if I was to ask any student where he or she wants to go after they finish high school, one might find that they’ll receive different answers, and for different reasons. For some students it is best to go to community college and focus on getting an Associate’s Degree or taking transferable courses.
All around the United States, there are people who probably never got the chance to go to college, not because they didn’t want to or weren’t motivated enough, but instead they couldn’t afford to go. In his book, The World Is Flat, Thomas L. Friedman talks about globalization, which means that the world is being flattened. What this means is countries are now able to compete with each other. One solution that would help people in a flattening world is free community college for two years. A majority of people have given up on the idea of college simply because it’s too expensive. What if community college was free for two years? Now people wouldn’t have an excuse to not go to college. But will students be as motivated and not slack off
Another goal of mine is to build a network to help find employment and increasing my knowledge of the career field I intend to enter upon graduation. This is not impossible at Wayne County it is, however, difficult when the field of my choosing is an academic one; Anthropology. I would like to continue my social growth. While universities share the focus that community colleges posses, universities leave room for social interaction and connection. Furthermore, when I chose to attend a community college instead of a university, I was well aware the two-year college would not be the final stop on my educational journey.
Success is a key that most people try to pursue throughout their lifetime. It is also undoubtfully certain that the level of ones education will have its advantages when pursuing a career. The peak of a persons education can sometimes portray what kind of life one will have towards one 's self and where they will land in society. Unfortunately, not everyone is gifted with enough money to afford community college, let alone Universities. Therefore, bringing up the question "Should Community College Be Tuition Free?" To answer this question one must look at the history of The United States and also the future of it. If Community college is free any individual from any background can seek knowledge to better one 's life or even benefit
If I had to pay full cost of college for 7 years it would be very hard and very stressful. Community college is giving me the opportunity to attend my first 2 years of college for free because of the new scholarships. And if I didn’t have a scholarship the price difference between a community college and a university is a big difference. Like Terry O’Banion I did not come from a wealthy family so community college is a great opportunity. Being close to home while attending college is very efficient with school, work and
Is college worth it? Bladen Berge When i think of a college education i think about job opportunities and see what kind of future you want. But is college actually worth it? Many people that do get a college education think it’s the only way to succeed but many high school graduates succeed without a college education.
Do you enjoy receiving something for free? Do you tend to appreciate more when you have to pay for it? President Obama is proposing to give college students two years of free tuition. Many people feel excited and others are worry. The article “Obama Unveils Plan for Free Community College” written by Steve Benen, addresses several point of view. One point is the White House has not yet said how will the plan to pay for this proposition. Second, it is just talk or been a “lame duck,” meaning the President will not do it. The President Obama said over his appearance in TV on The State of the Union, where you assume to celebrate economic improvements, and all America is looking at you. President Obama wants the government to pay $3,800 per year if the student keep 2.5 GPA. But the approval will be under a Republican congress. The
