No matter what you may end up doing, whether it be Dental Assisting, Nursing, or any other professional field there will always be at least one person that will criticize you and what you are doing. It is up to you on how to react to the criticism whether it be positive or negative. Criticism is not something that people should get upset about, but everyone still does even though it is usually there to help them grow into a more educated person. There are many different ways a person could go about accepting positive and negative criticism, the person needs to learn what type of criticism is being thrown at them, try to find a way to utilize the beneficial aspects of the criticism, and find a way to use the criticism to help them grow as a …show more content…
There are many different ways that a person could use criticism to help them in a beneficial way. Dr. Alan Zimmerman states in his article, “[Maximizing] The Benefits of Negative Criticism:” “We owe almost all our knowledge not to those who have agreed but to those who have differed.” No one likes criticism. But it’s fact of life. There’s simply no way you’re going to go through life without some criticism. Of course, our culture tries to minimize the impact of criticism by saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” That’s nonsense. Criticism always hurts. As philosopher and author Robert Fulghum says, “Sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will break our hearts.” Just having a saying like “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” will not help a person be able to accept any type of criticism. Words will hurt a person emotionally, so the best way to be able to accept criticism is to be able to listen to what the other person is trying to say and have it sink in. If one is able to stay calm and actually listen to criticism then they might be able to actually use it to help them …show more content…
The person can either take it to heart and help them become a better person at what they are doing, they can just brush it off and not listen to what is said, or thy can listen to it and be hurt and stay hurt by it. Most criticism is usually for the benefit of the person, but at times people may take it in the wrong way and think that they are being made fun of or mocked. People need to find a way to use the criticism to help them become a better person and to not take it as a negative thing meant to hurt their feelings. Rose Alexander stated in his article “7 Guidelines for Accepting Constructive Criticism” that, “After accepting criticism graciously, accept the responsibility for making changes that will help matters improve” (Alexander). This quote is trying to say to accept all of the criticism that people give and use it to help out your life and to make you a better person with what all you are
Tobias Wolff makes a clear point in his short story named “Bullet in the Brain.” In the story, a book critic named Anders is waiting in line at a bank. Unfortunately, two armed men enter the building and start to rob the bank. Anders precedes to mock the criminals carrying out the heist, and it leads to one of the men shooting Anders in the head. The message Wolff communicates is this: life is more enjoyable when you are less critical.
Sarah Dessen used to say that “Accepting all the good and bad about someone is a great thing to aspire to. The hard part is actually doing it. (Dessen, 2013)” Similarly, Barbara Jordan, a leader of the Civil Rights Movement, said “We, as human beings, must be willing to accept people who are different from ourselves. (Jordan, 2016, 45)”
We should never let anyone humiliate us or ridicule us. We should never be the people who humiliate others or ridicule others. I learned that we are all equal no matter what your class is or what your race is and we all have the same
The Importance of Accepting Truth In “Facing It” Yusef Komunyakaa discusses the importance of accepting harsh truths as a tool for healing and personal growth. The concept is also found In Sophocles’ Oedipus the King, where the topic of accountability plays a major role. Both pieces underline the idea of confronting reality, no matter how difficult, to self-improve.
" These students know that they will be made fun of. In order to avoid that they feel like the best thing to do is keep all of their hard work and achievements to themselves. "Children who prefer
The criticism a person gets can either benefit a person or hurt a person. Criticism is in everybody and everyone gets it no matter who you are from Stephen Curry, 2015 NBA MVP, to me a 14 year old freshman. Criticism can benefit a person, because it gives you feedback on how to get better. Stephen Curry was drafted into the NBA in 2009, as the 7th pick onto the Golden State Warriors. He had received plenty of harsh criticism about his height and that he won’t fit in.
“ I GREW spiritually fat living off the souls of men./ If I saw a soul that was strong/I wounded its pride and devoured its strength.” (Robert Davidson, 1-3) Some people who have insecurities often put others down to make them feel better. Others who truly do not like their insecurities will change themselves emotionally and physically.
One example from my life was when I said bad things about someone then I learned more about them and regretted what I said. After this moment it changed how I saw people and I was more cautious about what I said to others. You should never talk negatively about someone because you never know what they are going through. People always have things going on whether it is acceptable or dreadful. Most of the time if they look glum or act bad something bad happens either at home or with other people and you just never know what it is.
Why our principal media of mass communication is the TV shows? This is because in our century, people use more TV or Internet as media of information than a physical newspaper (paper). I will focus principally on the constant social criticism that exists on the TV shows. Criticism is the practice of judging the merits and faults of something. The term social criticism often refers to a mode of criticism that locates the reasons for malicious conditions in a society considered to be in a flawed social structure.
Some of the quotes that people ignore her with, include, “(...) Rushing around in that skimpy infantile brown dress lookin like a refugee off a junk from the mainland,” (Yen Mah 170). Also, “I suppose she hates chocolates and mangoes too; that’s why no one on Sunday comes to bring her any goodies at all,” (Yen Mah 164). These are just a few quotes that show how Adeline does get made fun of, and is bullied by cruel people. Although this does happen, Adeline ignores most of these cruel comments, and continues to make her path to where she is now.
Some of the most bothersome people I know are those who try to act exceedingly intelligent, but in reality they do not live up to this title. If they only accepted themselves for who they are, they would be about to work passed their weaknesses and work on their strengths. (113 words) This passage goes to show that petty, personal quarrels do not matter in the slightest when anything truly serious is
After reading and learning more about the “negativity bias”, and that “Over and over again, psychologists find that the human mind reacts to bad things more quickly, strongly, and persistently than to equivalent good things. We can’t just will ourselves to see everything as good because our minds are wired to find and react to threats, violations, and setbacks” (Haidt 29). In order to counteract this negativity bias, I would attempt to conduct a conscious effort to just try to process what’s happening first before I made any judgment of myself. At this time, I had no knowledge of the negativity bias, but I did know the general concepts behind it, though a bare one at that. Beating myself over a test was not going to solve my issues, and so slowing down, analyzing my study habits leading up to the exam, and reviewing my time management, became a common process for me to go through when I did not perform up to expectations.

In the end, it doesn’t matter, you know why? Eventually people stop criticizing. So be
