The Benefits Of Solar Energy

Solar Energy is a renewable energy source that is generated by the radiant energy of the sun. This energy is in the form of electromagnetic radiation and it travels to the earth in waves of various lengths. Some of the radiation becomes evident as heat while some as visible light. Today, solar power comes in two forms namely photovoltaic and thermal. The thermal form of solar power concentrates radiation from the sun, converts it into heat, and applies it to a steam generator or engine to be converted into electricity. Electricity is generated when the heated fluid drives turbines or other kinds of machinery. The Photovoltaic form of solar power produces electricity directly (i.e. without moving parts). There is an inefficient electricity (energy) supply produced from cheap coal in South Africa. Due to this, there is insufficient power station capacity to supply the demand for electricity from all the customers in South Africa and thus the electricity system becomes unbalanced and it brings about the need for load shedding. This is aimed at removing the load from the power system when there is an imbalance between the electricity generation capacity available and the demand for electricity thus other renewable energy forms must be looked at so as to eliminate the problem with the generation of electricity from the non-renewable energy resource known as coal. Since South Africa generally has clear skies and many hours of daylight throughout the year, this makes it an ideal
