A celebrity posts a picture in the new un-released fashion and the internet, blogs, and fans go berserk. Are they going to influence you to buy this wardrobe for yourself? A robbery or massive shooting occurs and the news and reporters go crazy. Are they going to scare you when you thought you were well protected? A tropical storm is soon to approach. Is the media attempting to scare you or are they influencing you to purchase things to keep you and your belongings safe? The answers to these questions, of course, vary from yes to no. The media hype is the intensive or exaggerated publicity in the mass media. The media holds a strong ability to determine an individual’s perceptions and opinions on important matters due to the way they present the information. The media is a social outlet used to achieve the overall population to shape gatherings for informational news, entertainment, education, data, or promotional messages. Media incorporates every broadcasting and narrowcasting networks such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, billboards, direct mail, telephone, fax, and internet. The creation of media began around 1920, till this day, yet delivering various types of media that are utilized today. (University of Minnesota Libraries Publishing, 2010).
