They were having a fight about something. I’ve a feeling about me”(Minot, 297) This passage speaks volumes, starting with the fact that they have moved to a secluded truck symbolizing their success in flirting with her, and have speedily moved things on to peruse sex. She ends with, “I’ve a feeling about me,” the reader assumes she is enjoying being fought over yet there isn’t any hard evidence supporting our theories, plus she doesn’t say that she tried to stop them. This sense of belonging ties in with her search, and the idea that she thinks she finally has found something that she believes makes her fit in.
While Dickens doesn’t use logical reasons he uses something much more powerful; the power of love. The outcome of this proposal would be a positive one because he uses pathos to win over her emotional side, and doesn’t try to force her into thinking she has to marry him so he could benefit. Marriage should not be proposed as a business deal, but as a passionate relationship where both sides will benefit emotionally and physically. Any woman who was confronted by these two proposals would most likely be repulsed by Austen’s but won over by Dickens’. The use of rhetorical strategies is present in both, but the more effective use of them was used by
If a marriage is strong and build on a solid foundation, there is no doubt that any sort of cheating in any way, shape or form would ever occur. It makes one think that the storm not only destroys the characters qualities but it eradicates the trust and faith on which a marriage is built on. Chopin the described Calixtas actions by saying “the generous abundance of her passion, without guile or trickery, was like a white flame which penetrated…” (Chopin 112) can be perceived that Calixta longed for something like this to happen since there was a lack of passion in her
Threatening the suitors by saying that the men who give bad gifts will not be chosen to be her suitor was a brilliant idea. Penelope’s intelligent thinking led to her receiving marvelous gifts. This also helped Penelope stall in hopes of Odysseus’s imminent
Positive Thinking and Conflict There are many times in one’s life where a simple positive gesture can make their day. Anne, in “The Diary of a Young Girl” by Anne Frank along with Louise Ogawa in “Dear Miss Breed” by Joanne Oppenheim, display attitudes that not only helped themselves, but gave other people hope. Though some might argue that positivity during a conflicting situation won’t help resolve anything, having a positive outlook on a negative situation can help someone solve their disagreement swiftly and efficiently. The best way someone can respond to conflict is with a positive attitude because it can be a stress reliever, give tremendous benefits to their physical health, and make others around them happier.
When Jack saw how brave and kind she was for doing that he really admired her and was no longer ashamed of genuinely liking Auggie. He saw that others also saw what he saw in him. This novel makes people realize that the things they do and say do matter and do have an impact on others. You should always be kind because you never know who might be watching or listening. Being kind is always better than being “cool” or “popular”, it opens your eyes to all the good in the
She didn’t realise initially that throughout her process of acceptance in the theatre, she gradually made it known to various characters of her underlying motivation. She demonstrated herself as a loyal friend to Margo Channing, however, showed too much devotion which put Margo on alert. Further, when she made an attempt to seduce a powerful man in the
She forgave me. We began talking, and I began falling for her. Love and happy relationships affect the heart in many ways, usually positive. Finding a person that you would like to enter into a relationship with is proven to make people happier, and almost
Unlike Martin, Arnaud actually takes interest in her wellbeing and treats her with respect; this inspires the emotional bond that Bertrande shows she has for Arnaud when she tries to protect him from having his identity questioned. The dream continues to come true for Bertrande because she also gets the benefit of a good public appearance with Arnaud as she did with Martin. Due to Arnaud posing as Martin, in the public eye she is still the virtuous wife who is loyal to her husband no matter what they have been through. However, Arnaud is
Yes, I’m sure I should have liked her because you know I have
The irony of an unfortunate date leading her image to be published in a magazine is a tribute to Aunt Nora’s independence. Despite Aunt Nora’s independent nature, she loves interacting with people and having good conversations. I know how much she appreciates my family’s visits by the excitement with which she speaks. She need us to support her and we are happy to be there for her. However, the best things in her life came from individuality.
In the novella Turn of the Screw, our narrator is out for a stroll during her alone time after putting her pupils to bed. As she walks, she describes how much she longs to see a handsome face by chance on a nice day. She looks up to see a man glaring at her through and embrasure of a pair of battlement towers that are distinct among the rest of the architecture. She says, “I admired them, had fancies about them, for we could all profit in a degree, especially when they loomed through the dusk, by the grandeur of their actual battlements; yet it was not at such an elevation that the figure I had so often invoked seemed most in place” (James 27). The elevation of such a structure would, for a usual person, distort and deter the viewer’s vision
The Crucible is not a play that wants for unique characters that call for an ability to bring nuance to the role. Many characters fit the ideas we may have of what a person living in the late 1600s would be like but they are given additional qualities that make some of their actions understandable to the modern reader. I doubt that I would be able to capture the manipulative energy Abigail gives off though I might fit her profile based solely on some of my appearance. And while I would certainly be able to make a wonderful John Proctor, it is more likely that I would be cast instead as the less adulterous of the Proctors.
In the world we live in, equality has always been a foreign concept. On an everyday basis, people are being assessed on things that make them distinctive or unique, and there is no such thing as two people being equal. There has never been a time in history where people came together as one immense community. We have always and will continue to be broken up into groups based on the gender stated on our birth certificates, the color of our skin, the religion we practice, and countless different factors. One of the most evident factors of inequality is demonstrated through racism based on the color of one's skin.
