Report on the Black Land

The benefits of working hard for your passion Joseph utilizes metaphor, personification, tone, and mood in the poem "The Black Land" by Joseph Warren Beach. Joeseph establishes working hard for what you want to know in the poem.

By using a metaphor, the author shows how the person enjoys working. "And pearls streamed off my neck and forehead" (L. 20). This evidence shows that he is sweating out water due to the amount of work he does. Another example is "I bathed in the sweat of pearls" (L.21). This evidence shows that he worked hard enough to bathe in his own sweat. Joseph shows that the farmer is working hard and that he is comparing sweat to pearls.

"I will plough the land, turning up the black soil" (L.1-2). By using "I will," he sounded excited and motivated. This makes it so the reader becomes happy and is motivated to do something. Another is "I sing as I go scattering emeralds" (L. 17–18). By singing and scattering seeds, he makes it sound as if he is dancing while singing a tune.
