One day a chilly, damp fog rolled into Boston in 1770. Two British guards were stationed on King Street. John and Hugh apprehensively watched the streets fearful of what might jump out of the fog. Unfortunately, some colonists, who were indignant toward the British for their laws and taxes, marched forward. They started to stir up trouble. The colonists formed a mob. This mob began to ruthlessly provoke the British soldiers. This angered Hugh so he struck a colonist with the butt of his musket. This action, which caused the mob to grow larger, prompted more soldiers were sent to maintain control in the area. Angered, the mob grew larger and more violent.
