Holocaust Literary Analysis The novel Night as well as the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas adequately show the amount of indifference and unprovoked suffering that the Jews had to endure in the Holocaust. However, despite both the novel and movie showing similar themes, they both had scenes in which they portrayed their theme in different ways. The novel Night is about a family being stripped of all things humane in their life and being separated and forced into a life of excruciating work and suffering. The movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is about the son of a German soldier at the time of the Holocaust who moves near a concentration camp and becomes close to a young Jewish prisoner.

While today we do not use people like Nurse Ratched to treat mental health patients, people still suffer from mental disorders. The novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest uses the realities of the mental institutions of its day to tell a story of the morals of the insane and the sane. To do this, the author, Ken Kesey, used several different literary devices, conflicts and themes throughout the book. The book is a classic because Kessy created a memorable protagonist and a compelling moral battle that he has to fight and ultimately lose in order to win.
Night is a story written by a Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, and based it off of his own experience during the Holocaust. It is a true story, and it teaches about what everyone did at Auschwitz. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is about Bruno, who is the son of a Commandant. Bruno doesn’t know anything about the Holocaust, and throughout the novel, he questions Auschwitz. He eventually meets Shmuel, who is a Jew on the other side of the fence and tries to tell Bruno what goes on on his side.
To Kill A Mockingbird Literary Analysis Throughout To Kill A MockingBird, by Harper Lee there are many acts of courage. This is shown in Atticus Finch, Jem Finch, and Boo Radley. Atticus shows the most courage in the book but all three of these characters show true courage in some way, shape, or form. Boo Radley showed a lot of courage, but he was not in the storyline as much as Atticus. Throughout To Kill A Mockingbird, courage is defined as standing up for people and doing what’s right.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas happens in Nazi Germany and Poland, near death camp Auschwitz during World War II. This can impact decisions the characters make and encounter the consequences. In this first piece of evidence, Bruno is looking out his window at the new home, likely at Auschwitz. “He put his face to the glass and saw what was out there, and this time when his eyes opened wide and his mouth made the shape of an O, his hands stayed by his sides because something made him feel very cold and unsafe” (Boyne, 20). This relates to the theme because Bruno chose to look outside and the resulting consequence was that very cold and unsafe feeling.
In the novel Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger readers are introduced to a young man named Holden Caulfield who introduces himself and begins to tell his story of how and why he left his school; Pencey Prep. In the story, Holden explains how he is being kicked out of school and doesn't want his parents to know and so leaves school early. throughout the story, Holden explains what happens to him before he must go home and act like he is home from school for a break instead of being kicked out. When it comes to the topic of Author's purpose of The will of individual vs the will of the majority some will think the purpose is to show that Holden going against the will of society to rebel, however, I think the author’s purpose of The Catcher in the Rye was to show that the individual will manifest in his desire for isolation comes from his is fear and damage done by fear of pain, failure, rejection, and is unwilling or unable to go along with the majority. This all shown through Imagery, symbolism, and diction.
Families being torn apart, being ripped from everything they’ve known growing up and being isolated within a camp where no one truly knows what’s happening to them. That’s what was going on in the life of the Jews during WWII, they were being treated as if they were no longer human, being tossed in concentration camps and given just a number to identify them, completely taking away their self importance. The atrocities that occurred during the Holocaust are being subtly portrayed in the movie “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas,”directed by Mark Herman, a story told from the eyes of an eight year old boy named Bruno and his unlikely friendship with a Jewish boy named Shmuel. The movie tells the story of how a young boy begins to realize what kind of solder his father truly is and what is going on during WWII as his parents had kept him enclosed in this idea that all is well in the world. Through the use of imagery, colors, and pathos Mark Herman successfully portrays the horrors of the Holocaust through the innocent and peculiar friendship of two nine year old boys, Bruno and Shmuel.
Essay 1 Date Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird “To kill a Mockingbird” is a novel in which Harper Lee, the author, presents forth various themes among them the unheard theme of social molarity. Harper dramatically uses a distinctive language through Scout, who is the narrator of the story to bring out the difficulties faced by children living in the southern Alabama town of Maycomb. Harper has dramatically displayed use of bildungsroman throughout the story; this helped to give the story a unique touch of a child’s view to bring out a different type of humor and wit. It has also used to develop and thrive the theme of morality in the society.
The main characters in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas are Bruno, Shmuel, Gretel, Bruno’s mother, and Bruno’s father. Bruno is the protagonist of the story, he is nine years old, German, and is short. He used to have hair but it was shaved as a result of lice. Bruno is very curious and this can be seen through all of his exploring. He is also nice, he gave Shmuel food because he saw how skinny he was.

Through this quote one can see the advantages of real courage. One can really understand the true meaning of courage by reading the books To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. The book by Harper Lee is written by a 9 year old’s perspective named Scout.
There are ones to rely on, who will have people’s backs through thick and thin, and display humanity in every step. The dictionary states, “Humanity is the quality or condition of being human or humane” (“Humanity”). This means people are humans because of the way they react to certain situations. For instance, humans have feelings and characteristics such as compassion, sympathy, consideration, and kindness. People’s feelings toward others mark them apart from all other animals.
Shmuel, a Jewish prisoner, and Bruno, the offspring of a Nazi soldier, were searching throughout the concentration camp for Shmuel’s father. While searching, there was no sign of Shmuel's father anywhere. However, a guard tricked the Jews into getting them to take a “shower”. Everyone, even Bruno and Shmuel became excited and unaware. As time went on, the guards led the Jews into a gas chamber, where Bruno and Shmuel were never to be seen again.
In Mark Twain’s short story “The Story of the Good Little Boy” he describes a little boy being good by trying to make the bad little boys became good resulting in himself being bad. Twain's real name is Samuel Clemens and he worked at many jobs when he was eleven to help support his family when his father died. He was trained to be a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River and piloted boats professionally. This story is about Jacob Blivens who always obeys his parents and was a good boy who studies books and school. His Sunday-school book is his guide to became a good little boy when he tries to help the bad little boys to become good but it always got him in trouble.
As time goes on in his new home he meets a boy around his age behind a barbed wired fence. They become friends even though it’s forbidden for them to communicate and they try to see each other as much as they can. Both the boys have no clue on what is going on. Shmuel, the Jewish boy said that the officers took their clothes away so that’s why they wear the striped pajamas. One day Bruno sees Shmuel cleaning the dishes and informs him that they are supposed to be enemies but instead offers him some food.
