All of this evidence leads scientists to believe that the Burmese Python invasion will stay in Southern Florida and not become a problem for the rest of the southern United States. Burmese Pythons are very elusive snakes and despite their large size, can be very difficult to find. In this study, tracking dogs will be used to find the snakes and their handlers will remove them once found. Dogs are known for their strong sense of smell and many are bred to hunt animals. They previously have been used successfully wildlife management to find reptiles that are difficult for humans to spot as well as various types of scat for surveying mammals (Wasser et. al., 2004).
