The caste system Is a form of social stratification which divides Hindus into different social classes. This class system can be traced as far back as 3000 years. One’s caste is determined by birth and cannot be changed throughout one’s lifetime. The caste system is a rigid system which dictates almost every step of someone’s life, members of upper and lower classes lived extremely segregated lives, one may not marry outside one’s caste and water wells may not be shared. not quite, depending on how this was achieved, India could fall into a state of chaos, especially of this was to be achieved in a short time. This is perhaps one of the reasons why India is failing to let go of the caste system. The caste system is a pillar of society that a large portion of society has spent generations benefitting from, to remove this pillar, mass protest would ensue, take a look at the Mandal protests in 1990 and 2016 (Pragya Kaushika, 2015). This is only the worst case scenario, though, and completely dependant on how action is taken. Fragmented modernisation is not caused by the caste system, it is caused by the clash between technological developments and primitive traditional production manners, Poverty and social inequality tend to play a large roll in fragmented modernisation, and the effects are that not everyone can profit from the development of a country.
