The Cause And Effects Of Climate Change

The most recent impact of total extinction was over 65 million years ago when a comet or asteroid wiped out the Cretaceous Period, “The Cretaceous is defined as the period between 145.5 and 65.5 million years ago,* the last period of the Mesozoic Era, following the Jurassic and ending with the extinction of the dinosaurs (except birds)” (Dinosaur Extinction Information and Facts, 2017). Dinosaurs became extinct due to the natural phenomenon; however, sometimes extinction is due to human destruction, in which some species now days are very limited like giant pandas, tigers, orangutan, elephants, whales, etc. “A species is defined as endangered or threatened when it suffers from these factors: damage to its habitat for recreational, or entertainment…show more content…
Pollution is the leading cause of climate change; climate change is created by carbon monoxide emissions in which it gets trapped in the ozone layer and makes the Earth hotter. Naturally, climate changes effect nature, from melting glaciers to severe drought, and even rising sea levels. Most of the changes due to the environment are created from factory farming, which uses a lot of energy and produces greenhouse gases. The main reason climate change is a massive deal for animals is in their adaptations. If modifications to regions happen too quickly then some animals are not able to adapt to the latest changes, recently there was news that Florida had colder weather and that their native lizards were freezing to death, which was caused by climate changes. Another way climate change affects animal extinction is in weather patterns. Nature's way of natural selection is in typhoons, tsunamis, hurricanes, and intense droughts, and these changes destroy the habitats of many…show more content…
The main impact of animal extinction is from loss of habitat created naturally and by humans. Natural loss of habitat is when other animals invade other areas, changes in weather and natural disasters occur. Some different ways that habitat loss happens are from humans, it happens in three forms, which include habitat deconstructions also known as mass deforestation, habitat fragmentation which separates animals from other animals and food, and finally, habitat degradation caused by pollution. However, the most significant threat of habitat loss is human destruction; it causes the most damage to the ecosystem. Humans break down the land for their uses such as making homes, towns, or businesses. “There is no doubt that Earth is undergoing the sixth mass extinction in its history – the first since the cataclysm that wiped out the dinosaurs some 65 million years ago. According to one recent study, species are going extinct between ten and several thousand times faster than they did during stable periods in the planet’s history, and populations within species are vanishing hundreds or thousands of times faster than that. By one estimate, Earth has lost half of its wildlife during the past 40 years. There is also no doubt about the cause: We are it.” (Ehrlich, 2015). This quote shows how much of an impact human have on the
