INTRODUCTION
How do you report child abuse? What happens after the abuse gets noticed? Why does this happen in today 's society? These are all questions we want to be answered and with the right information. Who knows, you could save a child 's life. We all know or have met someone that has maybe “been a victim of” child abuse, you might just not know it. I am the expert because in, fact research shows that in 2015, seven million child abuse reports were filed, which is quite a jump from the six million in 2014 (American SPCC). Physical abuse is when you cause injury or trauma to the child on purpose. The most common signs and symptoms of physical abuse are unexplained bruises, welts or cuts and the injuries normally have a pattern to them. If you are ever physically abused especially if the child is five and under there is a fifty-fifty chance of your child becoming unable to daily activities such as, eating, bathing and getting dressed (Urquiza). Neglect is when they do not give the child necessary items for them to live comfortably. Neglect has signs and symptoms such as wearing filthy, dirty or inappropriate clothing for the weather, the child is unbathed, has matted and unwashed hair or they have body odor they could also be late to school frequently (Help Guide Child Abuse And Neglect). Overall there are four types of child abuse that have their own unique signs, symptoms, and effects but they all leave the same kind of devastating mark in a child 's life. Remember we should care about this you "Killer" because it is taking too many smart lives for our bright future. You can report child abuse if the child has chosen you to talk about the abuse then you are considered a mandated reporter and you are required to share this information with the police department or Child Protective Services (According To Petiet In An Interview). If you have noticed abuse, the child will come and tell you, what you need to do is remain calm, reassure and show unconditional support even though you may feel a little overwhelmed. Do not get shocked, disgusted or deny what the child tells you. Do not ask leading questions and do not question anything they say just let them tell the story then report the abuse to Child Protective Services or the police department and reassure the child that they are safe (According To Petiet In An Interview). Describe the actions to take if a child or young person alleges harm or abuse in line who policies and procedures of own setting. If a child alleges harm or abuse it is vital that the person that they tell are trained to deal with this effectively so that the child can be reassured that they have done the right thing and that the allegation can be acted upon. The school at which I work provides regular Safeguarding training to all staff which refers to policies such as Keeping Children Safe in Education, as well as providing practical advice to all staff in the event of a disclosure.
