The planet earth has been around for over four and a half billion years. Humans, arguably the most intelligent life form on the planet, have only existed for 200,000 years. Recent studies have identified that humans are accelerating a scientific phenomenon known as global warming. Global warming as a whole is completely altering a multitude of facets on the planet earth. Average air and sea temperatures across the globe in all climates are steadily rising. Storms are becoming increasingly frequent and severe in climates like the tropics. Animals are being forced to migrate to new lands to inhabit because of climate change. The climate of the planet on a global scale is being thrown into a gradual chaos all because of global warming. …show more content…
Humans do things that create carbon dioxide which is one of the greenhouse gases that cause the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is when gases like carbon dioxide become trapped in the atmosphere and trap incoming solar energy. That solar energy is then redirected in all directions thus, warming the entire planet and causing what we know as global warming. Global warming is a heating up all parts of the planet causing global climate changes. “A major international assessment of climate change…provides conclusive new scientific evidence that human activities are causing unprecedented changes in the Earth’s climate.” (IPCC Confirms, 2013). “…Greenhouse gas emissions at or above current rates would induce changes in the oceans, ice caps, glaciers, the biosphere, and other components of the climate system.” (IPCC Confirms, 2013). Additionally, WMO Secretary-General Michael Jarraud said that, “Multiple lines of evidence confirm that extra heat being trapped by greenhouse gases is warming the Earth’s surface to record levels, heating the oceans, raising sea levels, melting ice caps and glaciers, and changing weather patterns and extremes.” (IPCC Confirms, …show more content…
(Jones, 2012). Between 2005 and 2011, research found that despite unusually low solar activity, the earth still absorbed more energy that it returned to space. The study shows that the earth is emitting more energy from other sources than the sun, such as greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. (Jones, 2012). Additionally, “The Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states: it is a greater than a 90 percent certainty that emissions of heat-trapping gases from human activities have caused most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century.” (How Do We Know, 2015). Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide is a common element produced by humans through various everyday activities. Normally, humans naturally emit carbon dioxide by simply breathing. However, plants and trees absorb that carbon dioxide through photosynthesis and create a cycle that is balanced. Carbon dioxide created through other human activity sources is what is causing carbon dioxide to linger and create the greenhouse
Greenhouse gases are those that absorb and emit infrared radiation in the atmosphere. The most abundant greenhouse gases in Earth 's atmosphere are: Carbon dioxide, Methane, Nitrous oxide ,Ozone ,Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Human activities also contribute to climate change by the amounts of greenhouse gases, aerosols (small particles). The largest known contribution comes from the burning of fossil fuels, which releases carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere.
Almost anyone who will read this essay has undoubtedly heard of the climate phenomenon Global warming. Global warming is a topic that gets discussed very often nowadays, most notably during political debate and discussion. Politicians use certain stances on global warming to appeal to voter’s emotions and logic in order to gain votes and support for their campaign, however climate change is nothing new, during the past several hundred thousand years the Earth has heated up and cooled down and even experienced so called “ice ages”, which is a period where glacial deposits located at the northern and southern hemispheres have grown due to dramatic global cool downs. Don’t be confused by climate terminology though, the global warming so widely
Annotated Bibliography: How Climate Change Is Affecting Our Planet Controversy statement: Climate change is been debated for over centuries now. People all around the world are taking action and reducing burning fossils to minimize the gasses in the atmosphere. Many people believe that climate change doesn't exists. But there are a lot of controversial topics that proves that climate change is real. In my opinion, climate change is slowly killing us and destroying our planet.
Climate change is an irreversible consequence of the damage we do to our Earth. If we do not change our ways, the global temperature will swell, causing an unchangeable series of events, consecrating detriments onto all the existence upon Earth. In only about 140 years, the average global temperature has increased 0.8 degrees celsius, and the ramification is the irreparable destruction of the place where we and millions of other species live. The most important consequence of climate change is the global increase in temperature and how that is affecting various animal species all over the Earth, the health of humans, and the rapid rise of sea level.
Many scientists believe that our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases is having a heat effect on the atmosphere and this could be dangerous for the environment and human life (Hansen, 2011). This article will examine the causes of global warming, its impacts and the remedies we can do to combat global warming. Many problems could result from global warming. Increase
Polar bears were the biggest and most feared predator in the North Atlantic, until recently. This paper will explain what is happening to the polar bears due to the melting ice caps, what the result of this is and how that is going to change the entire region. It will focus on primarily three factors; climate change and CO2 production, the invasion of killer whales (Orcinus Orca), and how the invasion into the north will effect human civilizations. Introduction The world’s climate is changing rapidly.
B. Thesis: The causes of global warming and climate change are because of increased emissions of greenhouse gases, and the effects of this are rising temperatures and more severe natural disasters. II. Body A. Counter Claim: Most scientist and people believe that humans are the cause of global warming because of the emissions that they put into the air, but there is a small percentage of people who think that global warming is not caused by emissions at all. 1. Introduction: Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the important green house gases (GHGs) emitted in the atmosphere through various human and natural activities. The human activities include rapid industrialization and urbanization, deforestation, excessive use of fertilizers in agriculture, excessive use of fuels, papers and many other manmade resources whereas natural activities include volcano eruption, forest fires, earthquakes etc. Emission of GHGs in the atmosphere leads to global warming which is one of the primary reasons behind the atmospheric changes that affect the human life directly or indirectly. The consequences of global warming are extremely harsh seasons, untimely rains, extended summers and floods that results in human deaths, destruction of flora and fauna in addition to the huge economical losses.
Global warming is all about adverse climate change caused by the trapping of greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere that affects biodiversity and poses a serious health hazard. Scientists have found strong evidence that human activities have caused most of the warming since the mid-1900 (“global warming”). Humans are responsible for
Polar ice caps are melting, sea level is rising, wet places are drying, cold places are warmer, all of these things are caused by Global Warming. What is Global Warming? you might ask. Well Global Warming is a slow rising of the earth’s overall temperature. This means that it isn’t a drastic change and the world’s climate is getting heated up in a week.
The most intense greenhouse effects include water vapors, carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. Moreover, the other chemicals such as CFC also contribute to the green house effects. It should be noted that the absorbed energy from the atmosphere by the earth directly increase the surface temperature. The Earth only has the tendency to absorb and maintain 33 degree Celsius temperature, and rapid increase lead to destruction of the human life on Earth.
Global warming also referred to as climate change is the gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth 's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants in the air today. There are two causes of global warming, human influences and also natural causes. Global warming is increasing day by day because of all the natural causes going on. A greenhouse is a glass building that contains plants in it that needed to be protected from cold weather. These greenhouses attract heat from many things like the
Human activities contribute to climate change by causing changes in Earth`s atmosphere in the amounts of greenhouse gases. Since the start of the industrial era (about 1750) the overall effect of human activities on climate has been a warming influence. The United States is the second biggest contributor of CO2 in our environment, however it is home to only 4.4 percent of the total population. In the event that everybody on the planet lived the way individuals do in the U.S., it would take four Earths to give enough assets to everybody. In many ways over time the effect that humans have on the climate is very bad and very dangerous.
Global warming is the change in the average temperature of the earth is surface as a result of humans’ activity that pollutes the nature. The level of carbon dioxide has been increased in the upper part of the atmosphere which it leads to increase the average temperature on the surface which it causes many problems in many side of life including nature, health and economy. Increasing the concentration of carbon dioxide is due to release of poison gases to the atmosphere by cars, manufactures, oil field, burning of natural gases and smoking. Air pollution and climate change are a result of increasing the level of carbon dioxide around the world.
The ice from glaciers, the ice sheets and permafrost are already melting and will probably continue to melt at a higher rate in the future leading to rises in ocean levels (IPCC, 2014). Furthermore, it causes the emission of methane (also a GHG), stored mostly in the Arctic regions (Shakhova et al., 2007) which in turn leads to increased heat in the atmosphere, further aggravating climate change. GHGs cause the oceans to contain increasingly more acids, which damages coral reefs and negatively influences the amount of CO2 the ocean can absorb (IPCC, 2014). Weather conditions are becoming progressively extreme and a rise in floods, hurricanes and temperatures can already be measured and will further increase in the future (USGCRP, 2014). Weather incidents could destroy forests and swamps, which causes less CO2 to be absorbed naturally.
