Introduction
The phrase, “water is life,” is not just a cliché but a reality. People need access to both clean and sufficient water to cater for their domestic and industrial needs. However, various problems have existed historically, which have had impacts on the level of availability, quality and water resources. One of them has been climatic conditions and changes that have shifted the quantity of water that people may get access to (Islam et al. 2015). Physical barriers also made it difficult for people to access water. For instance, people who are located on the leeward side of hills would receive little rainfall to serve them with enough water to meet their daily needs. However, with advancement and development in technology, man has managed to deal with various water-related problems that he faces. The

Some of the members details that one of the ways through which water pollution is expedited in urban areas is by surface run-off that normally finds its way into rivers and other water systems. Such water is adulterated with various elements, some of which are of synthetic nature and hard to eliminate. Ideas provided by community members are in line with assertions pointed out by Derkzen et al. (2017) in “Shifts in Ecosystem Services in Deprived Urban Areas.” In the article, the authors state that some of the materials that could find their way into water through surface run-offs are heavy metals, oil, and rubber. The article also details that the greatest contributors to these materials are vehicles. Through the process of wear and tear, they are likely to leave behind some elements that are easily swept off by flowing water. Their fumes would also easily contribute towards the formation of acid rain, which also plays a role towards the pollution of water
Today humans have altered our water resource in many different ways. According to a study done in 2004 around 2.7% of water withdrawals are used for around 2,187 facilities for irrigational purposes. Irrigation is usually used for agricultural purposes, including farming. One example of how irrigation has shaped the land is by farmers leveling their fields. Since irrigation uses the natural downhill flow of water, hills may disrupt this flow.
People used water for everything from growing crops to bathing. Before proper irrigation, people had to live near sources of fresh water. The Egyptians had the Nile, while the Mesopotamians had the Tigris and Euphrates; these rivers provide their respective civilizations with water to drink, animals to hunt, and plants to harvest. It is because of an adequate supply of clean water that these civilizations can prosper and flourish.
Every day, more and more roads, building, and parking lots are being built. This is eliminating the amount of forests, meadows, and grassy area all over the world. This actually is worse for our society. Instead of naturally filtered water that goes into the ground, the water is going into ditches, drains, and streams. This causes polluted water that is dangerous for all living things to live in or consume.
Water contamination and pollution has been a major problem throughout the nation due to the fact that it’s being done all over. Especially of the most recent contamination in Colorado all in the Animas River from the EPA spilling. Within the last couple of month there has been a mere excessive amount of water being polluted and having toxic waste carelessly dumped. The Animas River of Colorado and flowing through Utah, New Mexico, and high Northern Part of Arizona.
Linda Sue Park’s A Long Walk to Water describes a hot, sunny day in Southern Sudan, where an 11 year old girl named Nya was on her first two hour walk of the day, to fetch water for her family from a pond that was located two hours away from her home. She makes the walk every day, twice a day, carrying a giant plastic container. The journey takes her half a morning while the other one takes half a night. While she is one out of thousands who walk hours a day just to be able to find water for their families, hundreds of millions of people in the United States turn on a faucet, open a bottle and drink clean refreshing water in a matter of seconds.
“As the population rises, the world 's water usage will rise. Many areas of the world already suffer from a lack of fresh water,” (Population Control 3). If the world runs out of freshwater, humanity will plunge into chaos. Humanity needs water to survive, and that is a fact. Relationships between countries will be broken apart over disputes for water.
Water Pollution is a huge environmental problem that has serious effects on marine habitats, animals, and water quality. BP1: The world's marine habitat has been getting worse because of how bad the pollution has gotten. “ Over 80% of marine pollution comes from land based activities “ (source 5 ). This quote explains how most of the water pollution is caused by human activity. “ Plastic litter does not degrade, can be expected to last in the oceans for hundreds of years “ ( source 6 ).
Stop Taking Clean Water for Granted Can you stop for a moment and think what would happen if we didn’t have water; clean water? It seems impossible, as we use water to drink, cook, clean, grow things, and for everything else in life. Unfortunately, because of the easy access to one of the most plentiful, and most valuable resources in the world, some people take water for granted. In contrast, other poor people live in places where the only easy way to get water is from a dirty irrigation ditch. Or their only source of water is backyard faucet shared by several homes.
Desertification and climate change in drier areas causes severe water shortages and even droughts. Western culture has created an increase in urbanisation, population and industrialisation,
Topic: Water Shortage Specific Purpose: To inform the audience about water shortage and how to cope with water scarcity Thesis Statement: Across the globe, reports reveal huge areas in crisis as reservoirs and aquifers dry up. I. INTRODUCTION A. Turning off the water while brushing their teeth, a family could save about 5 to 10 gallons of water per day. B. Freshwater shortage will cause the next great global crisis.
2.1 Urbanization and river water quality Due to movement of people from rural to urban areas, physical growth of the urban areas occurs, which ultimately leads to the urbanization, Over the past several years, river systems have always been extensively altered to meet various human demands, which led to them becoming the most intensively influenced ecosystems by human activities on the Earth (Nilsson, et al., 2005 )]. ‘’Among these human activities, the influence of urbanization on river systems was the most significant, and 60% of river systems were changed profoundly because of urbanization in the world’’ as cited by (Nilsson, et al., 2005 ) Recently, a number of studies have been done to understand the effects of urbanization on river water quality. The study manifested on Pearl River Delta Economic Zone is in China, that there is a positive correlation between the rapidity of urbanization and the pollution levels of urban river water.
1. Introduction Water is crucial to our survival! Water is one of the scarcest commodities in the world at the moment; some argue that it is scarcer than oil. Wars have been fought over oil; therefore a war over water is a very big possibility in the years to come on this planet. With the current growth of the world’s population and the increase in demand for water in the agricultural industry, the issue of water scarcity is very likely to get worse and worse (Gupta, 2016).
• Pollution: Pollution of air, water and soil require millions of years to recoup. Industry and motor vehicles exhaust are the number one pollutants. Heavy Metals, nitrates and plastic are toxins for pollution. While water pollution is caused by oil spill, acid rain, urban runoff; air pollution is caused by various gases and toxins
LITERATURE REVIEW What is water pollution? As the country is becoming more and more populated, the demands for social services have increased significantly. This has led to an increase of the pollution in many developing towns such as Ga-kgapane. The most disturbing and problematic forms of pollution in Ga-kgapane is the pollution of the natural streams. Water pollution is when there is a build of one or more substances in water to such an extent that it causes problems for animals or plants.
Water is one of the most important and vital substance on earth. All life forms on earth require water to survive. If there will be no water there would be no life on earth. Aside from drinking water to survive, people have many other uses for water.
