In society, there are placements of rules and a distinguished level of control the government has that the people follow in order to live their everyday lives. These aspects shape people and turn them to be law-abiding citizens. However, some rules created by higher powers can threaten human morality and create what is known as a rebel. Boris Yeltsin and Antigone are individuals that take on the role of a rebel and display the characteristics of one by opposing the authority, being the minority, and backing their beliefs. These characteristics highlight the importance of a rebel. The man known as Boris Yeltsin is considered a rebel because he rebelled against the Supreme Soviet. He rebelled against them because they had attempted to impeach him, and he didn’t agree with their values. Textual evidence from, How Russian Parliament Tried to Impeach President Yeltsin, supports his rebellion by stating “But a military conflict between Yeltsin and the Supreme Soviet ensued, and there were horrible human casualties.” (Manaev 6). Antigone rebelled against the decree of Creon which stated that Polyneices shall not be buried, for he was a traitor to Thebes. Eventually, he won, and the Supreme Soviet collapsed which resulted in dramatic political and economic changes. For Antigone, she buried her brother Polyneices in secret with assistance from the gods while the guards were asleep.
