Many people claim that being a great leader requires confidence, boldness, and creative. However, not all powerful leaders hold those characteristics. Specifically Pope Francis possesses qualities contrasting from those mentioned above. Francis is enormously popular. But whatever people personally think about the pope, it doesn’t change the fact that he has been a standout leader. Born on December 17, 1936, the Argentine Pope Francis, or Jorge Mario Bergoglio, has been the current pope of the Catholic Church since 2013. As a person “known for social justice, especially for the poor; his humble lifestyle; and his conservative religious beliefs” (Funk & Wagnalls 1). Pope Francis possesses the perfect characteristics of a great leader. Jorge Bergoglio has brought success and influence worldwide with his humility, good decision making, and ability to overcome adversity. Primarily, Pope Francis leads the Roman Catholic community as well as the worldwide community with humility, never showing any arrogance or pride from his position as a leader. Even though he was elected the guiding figure for a wide mass of people, the Pope never behaves like a superior and never treats others subordinately, claiming “If we can develop a truly humble attitude, we can change the world,” (Krames 7).
