From the moment I started reading books, the novels written by Rick Riordan immediately caught my eye. I immensely enjoyed seeing how the characters fared in the situations presented by the author. To me, the main character Percy Jackson and his friend Leo Valdez fared best out of all the situations presented. As the main character of the saga, Percy Jackson always put his friends above him. On every quest Percy went on, he made sure his friends were safe and that they were able to move on, even before he worried about himself. The goddess Athena told him that his fatal flaw was that he cared too much about his friends. Even though he was destined to die protecting his friends, Percy only cared about his friends and their well being.

Anybody can care for someone, but it takes a real hero to put others before himself. In addition of his leadership, another example is his trip to the underworld. Overall, he saved his men's lives by risking his own and leading them to victory.

Percy’s growth is especially clear when he acknowledges Annabeth’s successful calculations, saying “If we’d have jumped when I thought we should’ve, we would’ve crashed”, admitting that Annabeth saved their lives (240). Percy communicates well, delegating responsibilities— “‘Get into that booth! Find the ‘on’ switch’” he yells to Grover, “‘Unfasten your seatbelt’” he yells to Annabeth—to guide the group.
