The Caddo nation currently resides in Oklahoma. This tribe is originally from many different places, including Oklahoma. These Native Americans lived in the territory of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North and South Dakota etc. A Frenchman, moved into Sioux territory in the seventeenth century and took control of much of their land. Back in the day the U.S. was overrun by people called the Indians or Native Americans. One of the well-known Indians of the time was the Shawnee. The Shawnee were the traveling people of our little state of Ohio. They are also well-known from the Greenville treaty of the time. The Cherokee Nation removal in 1838 (the last forced removal east of the Mississippi) was brought on by the discovery of gold near Dahlonega, Georgia, in 1829, resulting in the Georgia Gold Rush.1 During the Trail of Tears (1838-1839), the Cherokee tribes were moved to the Indian Territory, near the Ozarks. They initially settled near Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The Choctaw Indians were the original people found in in the Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and Florida regions. They were forced along the Trail of Tears in the 1800 's. Most Choctaw descendants live in Oklahoma today. The Trail of Tears was a path on which many Native Americans were forced away from their original homelands, also know as the Indian Removal.
