Joanna Trollope, a british writer, once said,“You can change yourself and you can change the situation but you absolutely cannot change other people. Only they can do that.” In the fictional world of Charles Dickens, a man who has been a terrible ogre for decades has the chance to change his ways, this was Ebenezer Scrooge in The Christmas Carol. Is it possible for terrible people to completely change who they are, in real life? People can reform entirely if they have others willing to help them, their mind is positive on the task at hand, and is willing to change their own future for the better. People transform to become better, for the sake of their future. In the article about Homegirl Cafe, when Father Gregory Boyle told Stephanie Lane that the cops were outside the hospital, waiting to take her to juvie, after she gotten into a fight,”she (Stephanie Lane) just burst into tears when I told her who was outside," he (Father Gregory Boyle) said. It was then that she realized things had to change”. This event made Lane realize that she doesn’t want this life to be her future, so she wanted to transform into someone new. In an interview for a Reuters news article, former gang member Stephanie Lane picked up all the broken pieces of her life and put them together,“since recovering from her wounds, she 's taken up boxing to channel her anger, waking up early to run each day and training with a coach on weekends.”To get her life back on track, she made a good morning routine to do everyday, starting a new life. Some critics think that people can’t alternate because of their minds want everything to be the exact same; however dedication and having a lot of willpower. Changing is hard to do, but if having people helping, a positive mind, and wanting to get better for the future, might be able to do the trick. Someone that is there for others, can give hope to those wanting to change, that people can change. Just knowing people can alter their life to become better, halfway reaching to those goals already. Seeing that a person will be able to live in his or her’s own future, the future that was thought of from when everyone had big dreams, yet little minds to do so.
