The Cold War was an event that directly impacted and influenced many aspects of American society during most of the second half of the 20th century. It mainly intensified due to the antagonistic values of the feuding America and Soviet Union who were each representative of opposing principles. Because they were the two remaining superpowers to emerge from the conflict of WWII the contention between democracy and capitalism soon became a global conflict.
