Today studies show that many people still believe that racism is organizations such as the KKK, or people such as Bull Connor. However, that just isn’t the case. Racism can be found on a much smaller scale, but with many people. You don’t see cross-burning or lynching anymore. You don’t see politicians speaking against minorities. Even though you do not see it, it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. In the book, The Color Purple, by Alice Walker, Celie’s father is lynched for being wealthy among whites and owning his own store. Squeak, or Mary Agnes is raped by her own uncle who claims that he isn’t related to a negro. Blacks must call whites “sir” and never look them in the eye.
