This is when the atmosphere traps the sun’s heat and then air on the atmosphere started to be hotter. The human’s activities are the major causes of global warming. As we all know, global warming can lead to many serious consequences and there are some ways too to overcome this problem before it becomes a serious issue. Firstly, one of the main effects of global warming is on human health. Human exposed to diseases when the atmosphere temperature increases gradually and cause the earth to be warmer.
Global Warming Problem statement Since the environment and environmental issues have become big topics of discussion worldwide, I would like to find out how global warming is affecting the environment and life on earth. Therefore, I am going to define what global warming is and explain what is causing it. Thereafter, I will describe what the consequences of global warming are and how it is affecting people around the world. Lastly, I will assess how we can prevent global warming. Global warming Global warming is the rise in the average global temperature.
Enhanced greenhouse effect is the aftermath of the rise of atmospheric gases also known as greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and fluorinated gases in the Earth’s atmosphere. With the constant emissions of greenhouse gases being produced daily, there is an enormous imbalance being created that strengthens the greenhouse effect. Considering the fact that there are already greenhouse gases with the ability to trap heat that naturally occurs in the Earth’s atmosphere to help maintain the warmth of the Earth, any additional amounts of these greenhouse gases will lead to an increase of trapped heat on the planet. Any further increase in the amount of heat will affect the Earth’s weather patterns along with global warming. The greenhouse effect is an essential element to help maintain our planet warm to be able to sustain life.
Scientists also predicted that the average temperature could increase between 1.4 to 5.8°C by the year 2100. Greenhouse gases can cause global warming. Based on Collins Dictionary, The greenhouse effect is the problem caused by increased quantities of gases such as carbon dioxide in the air. These gases trap the heat from the sun, and cause a gradual rise in the temperature of the Earth's atmosphere. Gases such as carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, halocarbons and so on, built up in the atmosphere due to increased use of energy and the expansion of global economy in the 20th century.
It acts as a blanket to keep our Earth warm and protected from the temperature in space. This is known as the greenhouse effect. The main cause of global warming is the large contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) to the atmospheric layer. What causes the rise in carbon dioxide some may ask, is the burning of fossil fuel used to produce power and electricity, like oil, coal and natural gases. Every time these fossil fuels are burnt, more carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere, resulting in the thickening of the greenhouse layer, making the Earth a lot warmer.
Effects on the Environment: There are profound effects on the environment on account of an increase in our carbon footprints. Due to the rising temperatures and shifting precipitation patterns there have been changes in the growing patterns of plants which has resulted in indigenous vegetation moving to increasingly cooler climates. Sea levels are rising as the temperature of our planet increases and warmer water occupies more space than cooler water. These rising seas will not only erode shorelines and destroy ecosystems but also completely displace the coastal cities and towns. 3.
Heating up of the Earth’s surface adds more vapour to the atmosphere which further builds up increases the moisture levels in storms (Meehl et al., 2000, p.433). According to IPCC, greenhouse gases (GHGs) mainly include gases such as water vapour, methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O) and ozone (O3) and they display the ability to absorb and trap heat within the Earth’s atmosphere. This leads to global warming, meaning the warming up of the Earth’s natural atmosphere
Many effects can be seen in the future if global warming continues. It includes economic consequences, more hurricanes, a spread of diseases and earthquake. Human-emitted greenhouse gases cause excess heat which has warmed the world’s oceans during the past decades. Water expands when it warms, which leads to sea level rise (USNRC “Climate Change: Evidence, Impact, and Choices”). Moreover, the global warming has affected the life of other living things such as animals and plants.
Global warming is described as the large and gradual increase in temperatures on the earth’s surface and the lower atmosphere caused by an increase in greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane (Soon, Baliunas, Robinson, & Robinson, 2001). While some factions of scholars, researchers and scientists describe Global warming as being natural, others believe it’s man-made. Naturally, the water vapor present in the air and clouds absorbs and therefore traps heat in the earth’s atmosphere which would otherwise be lost into space. The presence and increase of greenhouse gases further contribute to the greenhouse effect which leads to global warming by trapping more heat. In the period before the industrial revolution, climate change was largely due to natural causes especially changes in solar irradiance and volcanic activity (Crowley, 2000).
Natural events and human activities are believed to be contributing to an increase in average global temperatures. This is caused primarily by increases in “greenhouse” gases such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and that further leads to the greenhouse effect (appendix 2, image 0.1) Global warming has raised the average temperature of the world, because of this
