Its believable because he knows it was the right thing to do. “Because I lie and sign myself to lies”(Miller 4.727). Proctor can barely handle the thought of signing his name in a permanent lie that will affect him forever. The act of ripping up the thing that will save his life is also very believable because he wants to prove to elizabeth that he regrets his affair. John can never forgive himself for what he did to Elizabeth so he feel that when he rips the paper Elizabeth with truly forgive him.
This shows that John is a merciful being and desires forgiveness from his wife and God, therefore demonstrating traits of a good man. Furthermore, John has a heated argument with his wife, due to his encounter with Abigail, alone. Although, he thinks his wife will doubt him, she states on the contrary, “I do not judge you. The magistrate sits in your heart that judges you. I never thought you but a good man, John - only somewhat bewildered” (55).
Proctor says “ You are the high court, your word is good enough! tell them i confessed myself; say proctor broke his knees and wept like a woman, but my name cannot!”. In the quote John Proctor does not want written proof that he was a witch because he wants to protect his friends and not throw them under the bus. This means he cares for his friends and is truly a good man. Proctor says; “ let them that near dead now take their souls, it is pretence to me.”
For example, Elizabeth was lying about his affair with Abigail because she thought it would save her husband. Her purpose was to save John's life at great personal cost, albeit ineffective. " Elizabeth: My husband is a good and righteous man. He is never drunk as some are, or wasting' his time at the shovelboard, but always his work."(pg.). She was a good wife, trying to save
In Arthur Miller's "The Crucible", John Proctor is our passive protagonist as he tries to save his wife and others that were accused of witchcraft. Unfortunately, his attempt was in vain and his evidence had backfired. His knowledge did not stop the witch trials because of his self-respect, and the children's high reputations, and Abigail's tactful nature. John Proctor valued his self-respect because it made him confident and helped him stand up for what he believed in. John proctor's name was synonymous with honor and integrity and was most respected in Salem.
The people loved him, and he loved his country and everyone in it so much. Thomas Jefferson liked to do things differently than everyone else, but only if it benefited our country. He spoke his mind, even when people did not agree with what he was saying. Thomas was a very smart man, but he knew that he was not perfect. He always wanted to grow, and learn from

Westerberg had hired other hitchhikers but he said "they weren 't much good..." It was surprising for him to see someone so young yet with such drive and good morals. Westerberg is a compassionate man.
Andrew Jackson was a hero back in the days. “ Any man worth his salt will stick up for what he believes right, but it takes a slightly better man to acknowledge instantly and without reservation that he is in error.” “Every good citizen makes his country’s honor his own, and cherishes it not only as precious but as sacred. He is willing to risk his life in its defense and its conscious that he gains protection while he gives it.” -Andrew Jackson.
The example Carter uses in his article, “The Insufficiency of Honesty, “ is of a man who confesses unfaithfulness, thirty-five years prior, to his wife on his deathbed. The man says, “dishonesty was killing his spirit,” (5). Carter argues that though the man was honest to his wife, he did it out of selfish reasons, being unable to bear the thought of carrying an unrepented sin to his death, ultimately leaving his wife to question her marriage and cope with the news by herself (5). On the surface, the reader can assume that, through this allegory, honesty is not
He is the most noble for being loyal to all his companions, for being sensitive to others and for being selfless in difficult times. One of the reasons why Paul is considered the noblest character is because of his loyalty towards people. First, in the beginning of the novel, one of Paul’s friend Kemmerich is badly injured and had to have his leg amputated, sadly things are getting any better for Kemmerich and in the course of time he eventually dies. Paul describes himself as “wretched with helplessness” (Remarque 30), and even though he was like that, he stayed with his friend until his very last seconds.
In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, John Proctor is the most admirable person. Though he did make a mistake by committing adultery, he is still a very honest man. During all of the hysteria, he did his best to make sure he did not feed into any of the nonsense going on. Once he was involuntarily involved in the witch trials, ultimately in the end, he still stayed true to himself. Near the end of the play, Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor’s wife, is accused of being a witch by Abigail Williams and the other girls.
These characters were Scyld Scefing and Beowulf. They were shown to have a good heart though being kind, strong, and courageous. On pages 2 and 3, “Scyld grew up to be strong and brave, the terror of his enemies… Scyld Scefing was kind and wise, and his people loved him. This definitely showed that Scyld is all the characteristics of a good hearted person.
He proves his intelligence and strength. He remains positive and calm no matter the circumstance. His flaw is that he is too good-hearted, which in the end, gets him killed. Both Maximus Meridius and Captain John H. Miller have the qualities of a tragic hero, which are: a high position, a fatal flaw, and a downfall caused by their flaw. It is clear that Miller is a superior example of a tragic hero because he displays a larger amount of humanly traits such as fear and his situation is tragic because if he was still alive, his life could have been better, he could have been around the love of his life, unlike
