The Puritans arrived in America in the 16th and 17th centuries hoping create a purified version of the church as they believed the Church of England had still had too many components of catholicism. Humans are also invertly evil and this wickedness is displayed throughout many stories. Finally, moral values are also a central conflict to many stories. Puritanism, the evils of all humans, and moral conflict are a central themes to all three of The Crucible, “Young Goodman Brown”, and “The Minister’s Black Veil”. Although these stories are seemingly unrelated stories on the surface however when considering the under-the-surface meanings of these stories many similarities appear including the impact of Puritanism, the wickedness of all humans, and moral conflict.

These women were accused of witchcraft by teenage girls in 1692. There were up to 19 people hanged in Salem for witchcraft and one man was pressed to death for the suspicion of witchcraft. Accusing people for witchcraft was very dangerous in the 16th century.

In history there have been many major events that have shaped the times we live in. Two of the major events of our time are the "witchunts" of the Salem Witch Trials and McCarthyism. The Crucible is a 1953 play by American playwright Arthur Miller. It is a drama and fictional story of the Salem Witch Trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony during 1692-1693. Miller wrote the play as a parable for McCarthyism, when the United States government ostracized people for being communists.

Season 1, episode 2: When Michael Scofield goes to prison, he is introduced to his cellmate Sucre. Bellick, one of the guards, believes Sucre had a weapon, so he sends Sucre to SHU "solitary housing unit". While Micheal Scofield and Sucre are the cell, the guards and the warder come around for cell searchers. When the looked through the cell nothing was found. However, officer Bellick feels suspicious about how the check went, and later checks the cell when Michael and Sucre are not there.
“The Crucible” is a fiction story that took place in a small town called Salem in the state of Massachusetts in 1692 during the spring time. The plot of this story is about a group of girls who went into the forest led by a black slave named Tituba. They were all dancing in the forest until Reverend Parris caught them dancing in the forest and even saw one of the girl naked. Parris’s daughter Betty who was there in the forest falls into a coma-like state when Reverend Parris caught them. Reverend Parris only noticed his daughter was sick the next day and accused Abigail William, who is Reverend Parris’s niece, of witchery and caused his daughter to go into a coma-like state.

He refers to the ideas of taking attendance for church, long-held hatred, and land-lust. In the overture for Act I it states, “walk forth in the time of God’s worship to take notice of such as either lye about the meeting house, without attending to the word and ordinances, or that lye at home or in the fields without giving good account thereof,” (Act I Page 4). This is explaining the idea that people were assigned to make sure that people were attending church and not doing other things with their time. These times though, people would connect that with a form of witchcraft because it resembled temptation and sin. People were fearful of God and the devil in Salem, Massachusetts (Miller #) therefore almost any unusual behavior was ruled out to be witchcraft. Due to the stuff, Abigail did she was accused of witchcraft. Since she was fearful of this accusation, which she would be hanged for, she started to blame innocent people. The town officials went on a witch hunt to find everybody who was accused and hold them accountable for working with the devil.

In today 's society, many of the decisions people make lead to riots in the streets and people getting hurt. Similarly, the Ferguson riot in Missouri years ago, where many civilians were injured because of decisions made by everyone involved. Whether it turned violent because they wanted to prove something or because they feared the police when they showed up. A person embarking on the journey of life is bound to stumble upon many crucibles that will help him grow as an individual. A crucible is defined as a severe, searching test or trial that challenges the mental, physical, or emotional strength of an individual. This test often requires a person to closely examine his life in order to find a way to resolve his crucible. While facing such a challenge, the individual is able to recognize his abilities and can have a better understanding of himself. At the ripe age of seventeen, I have faced many crucibles of my own that required me to use all of my talents and to reevaluate my values and beliefs.
