Before reading the story I knew that the witch trials were known for burning innocent people who thought different or believed different than most. The charters in the Crucible immediately open their world to you. It is a time when people have a lot to be afraid of, babies die at birth, people say they have seen the devil, girls dancing and chanting in the woods, drinking blood, and being hung for practicing witchcraft.
