28 February 2017 Save the Water
Water is a necessity to all life on Earth, yet it is one of the most threatened vital resources in the world. “Water pollution is any contamination of water with chemicals or other foreign substances” (everythingconnects.org). From automobiles and everyday household products to industrial waste, humans contribute to the destruction of the environment. Not enough people are aware of the dangerous effects that water pollution has towards the environment. Water pollution has disastrous effects on the environment that endanger the lives of sea creatures. Shockingly, “over 1,000 seabirds and sea mammals die from water pollution each year” (dosomething.org). Though

One way to prevent this from happening could be to recycle electronic waste because they contain mercury, a toxic substance that can leak into water bodies such as groundwater (www.everythingconnects.org). Plants and animals that come into contact with mercury in these water bodies are poisoned. This causes high mortality rates and strange behaviors in animals. In short, with the growing number of electronic devices, it’s important not to just throw devices in the garbage after they die. Wireless providers such as AT&T and Sprint are happy to dispose of old devices correctly and countless other places are willing to recycle an old device (everythingconnects.org). In reality, recycling an old device is painless and simple. It also keeps mercury which is carried in the battery of most devices from entering the environment. Aside from recycling an old device, if a company like Tyson Foods or even a local business causes water pollution “contact an environmental group” (www.nrdc.org). Letting people know what they are doing wrong helps keep waste out the water. Businesses or even neighbors continue to destroy the environment until people warn them. Additionally to help,“dispose of automotive fluids and detergent correctly” (www.everythingconnects.org). Detergent and motor oil are made with harmful chemicals that can poison aquatic life. Instead of dumping left over fluid down the sink or toilet recycling it would prevent it from ending up in water bodies. Potentially, “a single quart of motor oil that seeps into groundwater can pollute 250,000 gallons of water” (www.everythingconnects.org). Taking the time to dispose of household products correctly has major effects on keeping contamination out of water. One less quart or bottle of chemicals could keep thousands of gallons of water from being
The Flint water crisis is an ongoing catastrophe that is currently affecting around 98,310 resident’s water supply in Michigan. What makes matters worse is that this particular area is already poverty stricken, with 41% of house hold income averaging around $24,862. (CNN) With that being said they don’t have the money to just up and move because of contaminated water. The people of Flint are suffering physically, mentally and emotionally because of the water crisis, the rising levels of lead found in the water have caused brain damage, hair loss and even cancer. The government has been taking an ample amount of time to resolve this matter, but have yet to come up with a solution to the problem.
The video, 60 Minutes – Electronic Wasteland, produced by Solly Granatstein, show us the cruel reality of the environmental consequences of human activities and life style and how the emissions from these recycling practices are damaging human health and the environment. Electronic waste (E-waste) contains toxic components like Lead, Mercury, Chromium, Cadmium, Polyvinyl Chloride, that affects the overall wellness of the human body and the ecosystem that is exposed. Some of the health effects of these toxins on the human body include brain damage, kidney disease, mutations, different types of cancers, birth defects, reproductive system damage, and much more. This video, it is very impressive and totally change my way of thinking and acting,
Random question: By a show of hands how many of you have drunk water this week? All hands should be up. Okay now how many of you know that you're drinking Everglades water? For this next part I’m going to need the classes participation. I’m gonna give everyone a number if you’re a number three I would like you to stand up.
All of this pollution is making it hard to keep people safe considering the water is unsafe to drink or even swim in. Factories using the water do not know that the water is
People complain about pollution from factories, cars, global warming, and the melting of polar ice caps, yet many people disregard the dangerous that come with fracking. Fracking is the process of injecting liquid at high pressure into subterranean rocks, and/or boreholes to force open existing fissures and extract oil or gas. Fracking is causing an epidemic economically and environmentally. Fracking is continuously destroying the earth day by day. From the endless fracking today’s economy is depleting.
Kimberly, One year ago today the North Dakota State Troopers, Morton County Sheriff's Department, and National Guard suited up in riot gear and cleared thousands of water protectors from the Oceti Sakowin camp at Standing Rock. Sovereign native nations have been under attack since before the United States' founding. It is long past the time where we need to recognize these attacks and stand united in helping those who have been hurt so much across the course of history. The Dakota Access Pipeline protests gave me hope that more of us are willing to fight back than ever before.
Water Pollution is a huge environmental problem that has serious effects on marine habitats, animals, and water quality. BP1: The world's marine habitat has been getting worse because of how bad the pollution has gotten. “ Over 80% of marine pollution comes from land based activities “ (source 5 ). This quote explains how most of the water pollution is caused by human activity. “ Plastic litter does not degrade, can be expected to last in the oceans for hundreds of years “ ( source 6 ).
Everyday people buy plastic things from the cafeteria, from plastic containers, lids on cups, and things as small as straws, and like 50% of plastic used it will be thrown away after one use. However, do you ever stop and think, what happens to the plastic? If you’re thinking that it just magically goes away you 're wrong. It will most likely end up in a landfill somewhere or in the ocean, and as you may think that your actions do not impact the world, think again. Everyone in the world has at least used one piece of plastic, adding to the problem of plastic pollution and helping certifying the terrifying statisticc that acooording to the 2018 Earth day video, “by 2050 there will more plastic in the ocean than fish”, which almost is impossible to think of.
"15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ." (Eph. 4:15 NIV) This is, barring something newsworthy to someone other than myself, our last installment from this blog's series I've loosely titled "Reflections from the Water Tower". We'll go on to other things next week.
Global warming is a big problem that we have to face nowadays. If you search Google for the word “global warming’, you will get over 70 million pages of results. The subject has certainly drawn a lot of attention. And now I will talk more about “what is global warming” , the cause and the effects it has on the earth and also some possible solutions for this problem.
Karin 20/08/2014 English 8A Nearly everyday in our lives, we see banners, magazines, newspapers, as well as posters telling us to be environmental friendly and to stop pollution. But do people listen to the advices? Do people realize that pollution is one of the biggest global killers? Pollution is the number 1 cause of death in the developing world; it kills approximately 10 million people every year. It’s hard to tell when and where pollution began.

Water can no longer continue to stay unprotected, it is simply too important. Today most countries have laws aimed at safeguarding water quality and controlling water abstractions (Groenfeldt, 2013). In 2010, a new human right to ‘safe water and sanitation’ was recognized by the United Nations and implemented effective immediately. Water not only feeds the human body, but also the earth. Without water, nothing can grow.
Water pollution is a serious issue as not only is water the most precious natural resource, but all sources of water support life that is very necessary for the survival of the planet. Water pollution destroys life and ecology and such damage is irreparable. Those who are still not serious about water pollution must also remember that the pollutants present in water not only destroy the life in the rivers and oceans, but also affect our food chain. Many people have the wrong notion that since they are not disposing the pollutants in the water they are not to blame. These people forget that 70% of the earth is covered by water, and any activity on the land can wash to the seas and oceans.
