An old proverb states, “A shared joyed is a double joy, shared sorrow is a half sorrow”. This simple concept is much easier said than done. To feel joy double and feel sorrow half, we must develop and cultivate relationships with others. Throughout life people encounter many relationships that cause a variety of emotions, envy, greed, forgiveness, and loneliness. These character traits cause relationships to falter. Through American literature, students will understand how crucial the effect emotions have on the quality and outcome in human relationships.

In the crucible by Arthur miller, took place in a small town named Salem Massachusetts, late 1600s. A massive amount of people were accused and found guilty in the court of law, what was their crime? Witchery. In the crucible the book had three themes listening to false accusations, greed and vengeance.

Greed can be a good thing if it is used for the right reasons. For example, greed can be the key that leads to success. If a person wants to achieve recognition, they’ll go extreme measures to make it happen such as inventing something, excelling in their studies, or even being the best. However, in most cases, greed can lead to disaster. Having the desire to obtain something a person already possesses is selfish. In the “Odyssey,” Homer illustrates the lessons learned throughout Odysseus’ journey. This book exemplifies how greed can lead to misfortune through the story of Odysseus and the King of the Winds, Aeolus. Greed is the cause of Odysseus’ delayed travels, causing more to be lost than what was already given at the time. The lesson learned is that you should never desire for something that isn’t going to benefit you if you have to commit terrible acts in order to achieve them.

Classic literature is the "meat" of ones general knowledge. Plenty of valuable insights are illuminated about the world that we live in that greatly impacts how a person lives their life. A brilliant example of this is Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon. It is one of the most haunting classics of all time because it can create and build suspense, it can be related to the lives of the general population, and it has the ability to change the reader.

This critique points the description, thorough analysis and viewers judgement of the artwork.

The selling of one’s soul to the devil is caused by one’s goal to obtain something of great value like, fame, fortune and power. Which leads one to getting hurt or losing everything. The story and the movie had various motivations, by dealing with the consequences.

Greed is the one thing that everyone in the world has in common. Greed can cause cause someone to be selfish and hurt those around them as a result. Bad greed causes people and others around them to get hurt. Greed can change a person’s personality. In Charles Dickens’ book A Christmas Carol, the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, keeps and collects all the taxes, pays his employees very little wages, and doesn’t give anything away- not even to charities. The ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future visit him to attempt to change his greedy and selfish ways.

After reading the book Ishmael, my mind has been expanding on the main topic of the book which is why we can’t change society because whenever we try to advance change just adds onto the destruction we are causing to our world. While I was reading this book, I began to learn more about how we are destroying our world even more. When humans lived in a simple manner, believing that they lived in the “hands of the gods,” evolution was destined to happen because humans had to adapt to their environment. This evolution sparked the problems that would come later in history, like deforestation, social inequality and pollution.

In a perfect world, there would be no source of greed, no desire for things that have no true value on their own. However, in Arda, just as in our world, greed will always exist because of a desire for power coupled with outside forces of corruption: notably, Morgoth and Sauron. As a result of the lies of these two characters, the Silmarils and the One Ring became the cause of corruption, betrayal, and death.

As a French Proverb states, “greedy eaters dig their graves with their teeth”. People are consumed with wanting more and more rather than knowing what they need in life. The human race constantly carries on this pattern of greed. A theme of greed is shown in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.

Greed and love, in most cases go hand in hand. People will sometimes become jealous when a loved one show affection or chooses someone else over themselves. This in many cases can drive a person to horrible or outrageous things this fact is one of the main parts in the novel The Great Gatsby. This can be summed up by one sentence and used as a theme statement and that sentence is “sometimes people will do anything to get what they want.

When people are poor, they often have a lot of problems in their life. They struggle through every day, but they learn to appreciate everything that they have. However, when people are going through tough times, they often think that money will solve all of their problems. In “A Raisin In The Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, she guides the audience through a black family -- impacted by the need for money -- living on the south side of Chicago. The Younger family gets Lena Younger’s dead husband’s insurance check and buys a house in a white neighborhood, and they save the remainder of the money for Beneatha’s medical degree and for starting a liquor store. Willy Harris steals the $6,500 used to start the liquor store and for Beneatha’s college money,

The Seven Deadly Sins are known cardinal sins that are unforgivable, but according to the Bible they are forgivable. The characters of Beowulf represent the Seven Deadly Sins either by character or in actions. Some characters show the characteristics of multiple sins. These flaws overcome the characters in mass amounts.
