In the text The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett the theme is, you can always find the positive in a negative situation. In the beginning of the text, Anne Frank talks about how she is going into hiding because the Germans invaded. The Frank family had to go into hiding while the Nazis took over with another family. Anne and her family are forced to leave a lot of their belongings at home. Anne thinks that this is going to be really challenging and very unfortunate. Although her father brings a positive thing into a negative situation. “A diary…I've never had a dairy. And I’ve always longed for one” (720). Even small things, including getting a dairy, can make negative situations a little more positive. In the middle of the text, Anne was upset because she didn't like living with Peter. She had wished that he was a girl her age. Anne thought that having things around would make things even more miserable. Then Anne started to spend more time with Peter. As the story continues, they become friends, and a little more. Peter and Anne hung out in Peter's room. Peter says to Anne, “I think you're just fine… What I want to say… If it wasn't for you around here, I don't know. What I mean…”(154). Peter isn't very good at expressing his words, but it is clear to say that he has a crush on Anne. Throughout the text, they fall in love. If it wasn't for them being in hiding, they would never have found love. Being in hiding is a negative, but Anne and Peter found love, which is a huge positive. In the end, they got caught by the Nazis. They were sent to a concentration camp. It was such a terrible thing that happened to them.
