Everyday people make or came across new changes in their lives, and we call this changes “westernization”. Furthermore people define westernization as the change in technology, institution, ideology and it is also wheresocieties adopt western culture in areas such as industry, law, politics, economics and lifestyle, etc. Today, there are many people who are westerning themselves among many cultures. Imperialism Position Paper In the mid-1800s the British extended their power by taking control over India, leaving a detrimental impact on their nation both socially and politically after ultimately exploiting their people, leaving them on the verge if not already lost to starvation, and consciously stripping many of them of their self-governance rights. The British throughout their rule mistreated the natives, and clearly disregarded their well being after allowing them to starve, and exhausting their workers for their own personal gain. After the Civil War ended many people were in hope of finding land since population was increasing. Since the West was underdeveloped and uncivilized, many decided to expand the land. First the Louisiana Purchase increased the opportunity of expansion. Then industrialization and the Homestead Act also caused many companies encouraged to move West due to the low cost of land and that the transportation was provided through the railroads. In order to complete such goals, something had to be done with the Natives since it conflicted with their home area.
In the late 1800s, America began to grow and government decided to explore and expand to new lands. After sending explorers to see the new land, they began to move into the western territory where Natives were already settled. Western expansion affected the lives of Native Americans during the period 1860- 1890 because Americans forcefully took their land, lives and traditions away. The government pushed for the removal of Natives in any way possible or get them to convert to American ways.

The 1880’s were a rough time for the American Indians, not only had they been trying to protect their homes, but they were losing the battle against the white settlers due to Industrialization. The Indians were determined to keep their land and culture so they were willing to do anything to keep the whites off of their land. They relied on the buffalo for sources of food, shelter, and clothing. As the settlers began to attack them for their land, the Indians fought back with bows and arrows made from buffalo bones and shields from their hide. While this was happening the great empire of Asia and Africa were weakening, and the Europeans took advantage of these(Human Legacy). American Indians truly experienced numerous atrocities when the Europeans came and conquered their lands. Prior to European colonization, each tribe lived in harmony and developed their own unique culture based on the environment where they resided. Their nomadic and hunter-gatherer lifestyles depended on the ability to cultivate their lands for sustenance. Consequently, the violent seizure of their lands stripped them of their unique cultural identities and led to a genocide of their people. Experiencing genocide was most detrimental for American Indians because now most groups are extinct and forgotten in history.
