1.0 Introduction Cooperative learning is an approach in which small groups of students cooperate and work together on a general task to accomplish an objective. Cooperative learning also is a planned and an organized scheme to utilize in small groups to improve students’ learning. As mentioned by Beth Lewis (2016), cooperative learning is a form of active learning where students work together to perform specific tasks in a small group. Etin Solahetin (2008) stated that cooperative learning implies as an attitude or behavior in work or help in co-operation between the members of the regular structure of the group, which consists of two or more people in which the work is strongly influenced by the success of each member of the group.…show more content…
There were some studies have been done related to this topic in foreign countries. However, no studies have been done on students’ attitudes towards reading skill using cooperative learning. 1.3 Purpose of the Study This study is aimed to examine the effects of cooperative learning on students. The main reason of this study is to determine the effect of cooperative learning on students’ attitudes towards reading skill. This study is also seeks to identify the main reasons why cooperative learning is recommended to be use in class and suggest classroom arrangements that will help with cooperative learning. They can use this research finding to develop theoretical model or stimulate new research. 1.7 Limitations of the Study There were few limitations when conducting this research. The first limitation is population. This study was limited to only primary school students not include secondary school students. This study also does not include University or college students. Not only that, this study also limited to only primary schools in Petaling Jaya. Therefore, the finding of the study cannot be generalized to all school students. This study is limited to quantitative approach where only statistical and numerical data is present. Thus, it does not have in depth data and the findings of the study do not examine the reason behind the numerical data. Last limitation is this study only investigates on students’ attitudes towards reading skills. Hence, the finding of the study cannot be generalized to all the four skills in language learning. 1.8 Operational
