MAKING EDUCATION ACCESSIBLE COST EFFECTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS Technology use in classrooms is often employed for all the wrong reasons—such as convenience, pressure from school administrators, the belief that students need to be entertained, and so on. It presents the opportunity to employ powerful cognitive tools that can be used by students to solve complex and authentic problems. In order for this to occur, however, technology needs to be used in theoretically sound ways, and it needs to be used by students rather than teachers. Schools report that technology is having a positive effect on children 's learning and their perception of themselves as learners, which is why children with disabilities benefit from the use of assistive technology. The implementation of assistive technology is dependent on the knowledge, skill and inventiveness of the teachers who use what they have learned from higher education, their teaching experiences, and their attendance at continuing education programs and in-service classes. The Internet and the World Wide Web also provide access to learning materials in almost every subject and in a variety of media anywhere at any time of the day and to an unlimited number of people. One of the most commonly cited reason for using ICTs in education has been to better prepare students for a workplace where ICTs are becoming more and more ubiquitous. Educators, policymakers, administrators, and teacher preparation and professional development programs now should embed these tools and resources into their practices. Features of the ASDs includes sensory and cognition problems, difficulty in communicating with other people, and repetitive behaviors. Classroom Observation Reflection Abrar Hilal University of Oklahoma Tuesday, February 12 Classroom Observation Reflection Special Education Classroom Report The special education classroom that I observed, included the main teacher, two teacher assistants, and ten students with Developmental Delays. The main teacher uses technology to aid the students to learn easy and faster. A smart board is present in the classroom, but the teacher doesn 't use it often as she prefers to use her own handouts and her specially created activities. I think this is effective as she can modify activities better and so that the students benefit from that personalized touch.
Since some schools are more open to the idea of intertwining technology with learning, some factors should be considered before transitioning. Before integrating technology into curriculums, schools should consider possible addiction that students may acquire, lack of skills and short attention spans that may result from technological exposure, as well as the positive potential that technology has- like easy access. In the end schools should focus on both the negative and the positive side to rule out which one outweighs the other.
