Sometimes they get easily upset or angry if they can 't watch TV, and they do not care about what happen around them. Many parents are worried about their children and they usually do not know they are also another reason that leads to addicting TV in kids. Some the parents who want to do their own activities used television as a good way to keeping their kids. “When children are still toddlers, most of parents used TV as a substitute nanny for their children” Dr Richard Woolfson who is a child psychologist said. For example, housewives often allow their kids to watch the TV while they are cooking in the kitchen.
Modern parents are so busy in their everyday activities that they often make the television their children’s baby sitter. They leave their children in front of the television for long hours just so they can go around doing their work. Little do they know that excessive hours of watching television can have a negative effect on their children. Television can have many harmful effects on a growing child, such as: poor performance in school, increasing health issues, promoting negative influences, behavioral problems, numbing of the mind and projecting false information. Children who tend to watch prolonged hours of television are said to have a poor performance in school.
Parents come with complains that there children is getting to video games or their children are having health issues or mental issues because of video games. More than 51% parents say that video games are bad for their children. Most common complains are: • The children have become an addict of playing video games and will not stop playing. The children waste hours after hours while they can actually do productive activity like study or play outside. • The children have become violent and aggressive and are fighting with each other for no reason because that is what they learned from the video games.
It plays vital role children acquiring knowledge about products, brands, advertising, pricing, decision making skills, attitude, shopping and parental influence. In other words, television plays a detrimental role in the consumer socialization of children by making them well informed and knowledgeable consumers to deal with tough and complex business interactions in the dynamic business environment. Though, there has been a lot of academic debate regarding the positive or harmful impact of television on the children, but it cannot be denied that the modern day children are very much “television literate”. (The term ‘television literacy’ has been coined by Shaffer (2005).) Children below the age of 8 or 9 will be unable to decipher and understand whatever they see in the television advertisement but they may remember and identify few things case by case.
The average child today spend countless time viewing the television for fun and enjoyment, despite it having no education or real value to them. The frequent viewing of television prevents children from playing or socializing with others. Little or no interaction with peers can affect children’s social development. Television takes away the time children get to interact with other children in their social circle suggested by Gangala (2017). In an article on antisocial behaviour written by Warner (2007) pointed out that preschoolers who watch hours two television leads to antisocial behaviour.
When they don’t have a limit for online time, teenagers could stay up as late as they want and lose track of time. It 's concerning because without enough sleep students can fall behind in school, have behavior issues or even become sick because their body isn 't resting. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends "that children and teens devote no more than two hours to entertainment media each day"(Norton). Teenagers need to set down the devices/remotes, in order to get the right amount
They are able to get more information about different places that they have never been just by watching on television. Watching television influences the ways youth sees the world, and often influences how teens dress, what kind of popular music that they are listening to, what brands they think are favorite, how to make-up, how to lose weight, how to cook, how to eat right, how to exercise in right way and direct to the point, get news around the world, what is the most popular thing that teens do, or what dramas or series they think are favorite. Television has many programs like recommending places where popular places to travel or interesting places, some show about history period, some show about natures of different countries or continents, and some show about animals in this world. Television has both of positive and negative but depend on youth will use it in which
From newspapers and magazines to television and Facebook everything has a great influence on our lives nowadays. Television has a great socialization effect on a child, it isn’t an interactive component but it greatly enhances the development of a child from a young age. ‘Because the media are so pervasive many observers worry that both children and adults will be socialised into a world that does not exist’ (2009, pg 15) this quote gives me the idea that by watching television it paints a very different picture to what life is really like. Children watch on average 3-4 hours of television per day which reduces the amount of time they spend interacting with others and this affects their social skills. ‘television consumes as much of children’s time as interacting with parents’ (Macionis and Plummer, 2009 pg 15) this shows the major role the mass media plays in our everyday lives.
Obviously, in this constantly changing by-second world, people tend to watch films or TV shows in order to relax and unwind after working as well as studying, especially to avoid stress. However, the matter is, spending too much time on watching media on TV can also cause negative effect on daily life, including TV addiction. It’s cannot be denied that although TV should be a household appliance to help everyone entertain, watching it for a long time sooner or later makes the audience isolated and only feel comfortable whenever he or she turns on the TV. For instance, in a study conducted in the US, children who are allowed to watch TV shows for more than 5 hours a week will later encounter difficulties to establish and build relationships with new friends in their
I think because of video games and media that adolescents think it is okay for violence and sexualy activity. Their brain is not able to decipher what is right and wrong and it leads them to make poor choices, which leads to school/public shootings and rape. I believe this is a problem because their parents are not able to be there to push them into the right direction because they are at work most of the day, and adolescents are at home alone possibly with their friends and they end up making poor choices with one another. In today’s society, you see more older people working than you do teenagers. It is very difficult for a teenager to get a job, because of their maturity level, the responsibility that goes with it and et cetera.
