In, The Empire Strikes Back, Luke Skywalker unconsciously follow in his father's footsteps by recognizing anger, fear, and aggression in the three battles with Darth Vader in Cloud City. Luke allows fear and anger to lead to aggression during the first battle in the carbon-freezing chamber when he ignites his sword first. Luke finds Darth Vader in the carbon freezing chamber and attacks first. Luke attacks over and over while Darth Vader is using defense tactics. Vader encourages Luke's strategies by telling Luke that, "Only your hatred can destroy me" (Lucas The Empire Strikes Back 76). This is a lie because Yodo told Luke that using hate when you fight will only lead him to the dark side. Luke finally wins the first battle by causing Darth Vader to lose his balance and fall off the outer rims of the pipes. …show more content…

Luke allows fear and anger to lead to aggression a second time in the tunnel and reactor room after he defeats Darth Vader in the first battle. When Darth Vader enters the control room, Luke ignites his sword first and advances first to attack He ignites his sword and moves into the room and toward a large window as Vader enters. Luke raised his sword and moves forward to attack" (76). After Luke moves forward to attack, pieces come flying towards him and he dodges the first one. After multiple dodges a piece of machinery hits Luke and knocks him out of the window. Even though Luke never gets the chance to hurt Darth Vader, he advances forward first so he loses the battle spiritually and physically. In the final battle, Luke surrenders and by doing so wins the last battle. After Luke is beaten in the second battle Darth Vader finds him on the gantry.
