THE EVOLUTION OF NESTLE
Nestle was founded in the year 1867, in Vevey, Switzerland, and is considered the largest food and beverage company in the world (Nestle, n.d.). The growth of condensed milk in the United States and England was noticed by Henri Nestle, who at the time, worked as an assistant to a local pharmacist in his early career. According to Martin (2015), he was trained in science and chemistry, and was an innovator, who experimented with food until he discovered and produced a nutritious combination of milk, wheat and sugar, known as cereal. In fact, the cereal due to its high nutritional value, saved a child’s life and Nestle called it Farine lactee.
According to Martin (2015), “The logo has been reimagined and simplified over the years, but it has retained the same basic structure that Henri Nestlé developed in 1868.” Nestle established their first logo which was based on his family name and its play on the meaning ‘nest’ in German, including his baby food products represented by young birds being fed.
Eventually, the product’s popularity grew so large, that Henri began producing on a large scale, buying milk to create his Farine lactee fresh each morning. However, in 1869, this method soon became impractical, so he purchased his milk supply through a collection center to be delivered to his factory. After eight years of combining high quality products and a strong business acumen, by 1875, Nestle products could be found across the the globe in countries
