Today’s generation: some view them as the future leaders of the world, others view them as idiotic, phone-loving, waste of space, brainless hooligans, who are only good at wasting time and money. Personally, I believe that today’s society isn’t as bad as most older generations make them seem. Although integrity and civility may play a very minimal role, I don’t think that it is necessarily their fault. One of the reasons I don’t believe it is their fault is because of their home environment. Children can only be as good as their parents raise them to be. So if their parents set a bad example for their child, that child will have no choice but to be like that. For example, if the child’s parents are always swearing, this will encourage the …show more content…
Celebrities have a huge impact on children. They are the biggest trend starters in today's society. One of the things that a lot of celebrities do is drugs. So imagine a child that looks up to celebrities such as Lil Wayne or Quavo, saw them doing drugs, this would show them that if they wanted to be like there idols they should do drugs too. Another celebrity who sets bad examples is our current president Donald Trump. I personally have nothing against him but he sets some really bad examples for young boys. He is constantly degrading women and making them feel lesser which also affects young women. One article where I found evidence for this was the New York Times article, “ Donald Trump’s Long Record of Degrading Women.” In this article it said in the 14th paragraph, “Mr. Trump suggested that Megyn Kelly, a Fox journalist and one of the debate moderators, had questioned him forcefully because she was menstruating.” This shows that Mr. Trump is making a journalist seem lesser because of being a woman. But this isn’t my only example another one is in paragraph 18, Mr. Trump criticized the appearance of one of his opponents, Carly Fiorina, saying she was too ugly to be elected. “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president? I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”
Parents have a large impact on their children's lives, and depending on what type of parent they are, the child will act differently in the
According to Professor Jeffrey Bosworth, in his editorial “Hunting for Hope in Modern America,” he discusses the “screwed” millennial generation and the potential they have to be successful, despite current existing United States problems. Bosworth explains this from three different perspectives: the current issues in America, the positive attributes of the millennial generation, and what the millennial generation should do to succeed. In Bosworth’s opening proposition he elucidates the “[millennial] generation is screwed”. He expounds the millennial generation is predicted to “do worse than the previous generation”.
In the story “The Know-it-all Generation” the author sets the scene in the first person and gives a personal account to prove an underlying issue that the generation may be facing. The generation consists of individuals that ultimately go off into the world with a sense of entitlement, false hope, and a pompous attitude due to constant specious comments made by those around. Meaningless compliments have become requirements for teachers, coaches, parents, and even peers. Being wrong is not an option in this generation. The main two points that the author states throughout the paper are 1.)
In the essay, “The Beat Up Generation”, by Abby Ellin (2014), within several discussions she explores and discusses the division and differences among generations that differ by age group starting with the baby boomers to the GenXers leading up to the generation today, the millennials. She uses factual evidence, examples, studies, and stereotypes to show how millennials are highly criticized by the older generations although they are better to adapt and needed in the changing world. The purpose of the essay is to point out these differences and criticism amongst the generations, how predecessor generations misunderstand the millennial generation. The intended audience refers to any individual that falls into the each generation.
The young generation are doomed, they say. Honestly, it hurts me to say that I agree to a certain extent. The media itself portrays young adults as individuals who couldn’t give a damn about politics. Personally, I try to stay as far away from politics as possible, even though it affects me most.
Most of the time children gravitate towards certain risky behaviors is because they are lacking attention and supervision from parent. This affects them the most because they are getting the right guidance the child needs in order to cope with his/her
With every new generation of teenagers or young adults, there always seems to be this negative look towards the youth culture. What really strikes me is that it happens with every new generation. It seems like once a person hits their teenage years they suddenly become “rebels” of society, and for what reason? How do most adults see the younger generation? They are young people who have bad manners, no respect for the elderly, they are real tyrants, they do not stand up when elders walk in, they do not listen to their parents or teachers, they talk in the presence of adults, and they eat gluttonously (Socrates).
Many of these celebrities have created a toxic environment that builds peer pressure in society. As seen with advertisements and body shaming that celebrities do whether it 's meant or not people are being influenced by this. Individuals have a growing amount of peer pressure to follow celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and follow their trends due to the poisoning of pure pressure. People may not fit in if they don’t follow to the status quo which has the potential to lead to a ruined society. Individuals are wasting time on entertainment while they can be doing more productive things.
Will good parenting skills change a child’s bad behavior? Some people may say that to fix a child’s behavior parents should involve punishment. Maybe they will also say that punishment leads to having a well-disciplined child. In the article, “No Spanking, No Time-Out, No Problem,” Olga Khazan proposes a parenting intervention from a child psychologist, she utilizes it to persuade readers along with parents into believing that punishment cannot change negative behavior. Kazdin discusses the causes behind a negative behavior from a child and utilizes it to prove that punishment does not need to be utilized.
The ways parents raise their children reflects heavily on them, from their character to their confidence. A parent who treats their children equally and enlighten them on morals and future life lessons are more likely to succeed, compared to parents who are neglectful and don’t care for their children. For example, in To Kill a Mockingbird, there are many parents with different parenting styles, all whom reflect on their children. Atticus teaches his children to view everyone as equals and explains problematic questions to them, when for example, Bob Ewell is a drunk and neglects his children. “When a child asks you something, answer him, for goodness sake.
Me-llennials In “The New Greatest Generation,” Joel Steins focuses on his opinion that millennials are “lazy, entitled, selfish and shallow”(Stein). Stein argues that millennials are narcissistic and self-entitled. Also, that technology is weakening millennials brains. He believes that with each generation it get lazier.
Another factor that is affected by genes is one's’ personality. Scientists have studied many sets of twins and came to the conclusion that personality is based on five traits: agreeableness, openness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and how extraverted a person is (Bouchard). Recently in my psychology class, my professor mentioned a story that I found very interesting. She told us that researchers found that identical twins who were separated at birth, still developed the same likes and dislikes, dressed the same, and were interested in the same career paths. This suggests that a large part of a person’s personality is genetic.
Parents need to realize that it might be the way they are parenting and that it 's not the child
My last paragraph are people’s opinions and professionals quotes about it. Celebrities get paid way too much money. They should at least use their money for a good cause. They should give some of their money to people who are risking their lives and fighting for our country for us. Some use their money for completely wrong things.
Would you want you whole life stalked by people and paparazzi snapping pictures of you eating, sleeping, having personal time with friends or family, and somehow always finding out where you are and getting no private time to yourself? Most people prefer to don’t want to be stalked everyday, especially when your sleeping or eating with someone. Gossip tends to ruin or somewhat help people’s lives because it spreads certain things you didn’t want some people to know that have now found out due to gossip, which inevitably is worse then not being able to stand up to the person face to face and tell them yourself. This life of a celebrity can be extremely harmful, not only to the individual themselves, but the people around that individual. Another thing that tends to be ruined or lost by celebrity culture is
