Mark Lichtenberg Mr.Giddens Government August 8 2015 The First Amendment The first amendment of the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights. The amendment guarantees against the government invading key personal freedoms that are the freedom of religion, the freedom of the press, free expression, freedom of association, and the freedom of assembly. Without the first amendment religious minorities could be prosecuted, the government could establish a national religion, protestors could be silenced, the press would not be allowed to criticize the government
First of all, the first amendment is very important to the Constitution. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution and https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution#amendments, it explains 5 different freedoms that all citizens have. The first is the right to freedom of religion, then the next one is
Along time ago there was a king in England who would take colonists homes, put us in prison, and not tell us why. The king would take our guns which we needed to protect ourselves back then. We got into a war when we were trying to free ourselves from England. We won the war so we created a new government. But we wanted to have some rules the government has to follow so this new government doesn 't do the same thing the old garment did.
Due to the unique nature of the United States Military, there are various restrictions placed on the first amendment rights of its members which effects their freedom of speech, the right to assembly, and the right to petition. The United States Constitution was written in 1787 and ratified a year later in 1788. Before many of the states would ratify the constitution, they required a Bill of Rights to be written in order guarantee certain individual rights and freedoms for citizens and limit the power of the federal and state government (Britanica,2015). The first amendment of the Bill of Rights states that, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
Another right on the first Amendment is the freedom of speech which protects people from expressing themselves for whatever they want and not get in trouble for saying it. An example is how we express during election, we can say whatever we what about the candidates without getting in trouble or we can talk
Of the ten amendments in the Bill of Rights, the most important one in my opinion is the first amendment. The First Amendment protects the freedom of speech, religion, and the press, as well as the right to assemble and petition. In parts of the world you may face execution for speaking, assembling, or petitioning against the government, including members of the press, or following a different religion. Thus I consider myself very lucky to be living in a country who grants it 's citizens such
The amendments that were ratified on December 15, 1791 were also known as the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is the fifth version of the constitution to be changed, it contains the first ten amendments that are important and vital to our lives. Though there are two that are the most important to the people and ensure their safety. The second amendment is one of the important amendments, because this is where people have the right to have gun with them at all times. This right has been debated for years and even today they still are.
The First Amendment, Freedom of Speech could probably be considered the most powerful amendments of the Constitution. If we didn’t have this right, many of our ideas and beliefs would not be real today. All American citizens have the right to talk about what’s on their minds and say what they believe in. As Derek Bok mentions in his essay and unfortunately for people who disagree, With the Supreme Court’s rulings, the demonstration of these flags clearly falls within the protection of the free-speech clause of the First Amendment and that they can in no way be banned merely because they may seem offensive or may someone else’s feelings. “These rulings apply to all agencies of government, including public universities”.
Under the Bill of Rights, in the first amendment comes the right of the freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of pursuing happiness. These rights are equal for every individual and no one can take away one's rights or freedom. We don't had to fight for these rights. These rights are close to us since we are born. However, there should be some restriction on the right to speech, religion, and press.
The United States Constitution is considered to be more concise, as well as much older than constitution of other nations worldwide. Although, the United States Constitution is mature, there are such a limited number of amendments that have been added to the Constitution since it was created. The 27th amendment was the last amendment that was added to the constitution in 1992. During the early stages of the constitution it was a controversial document during the conventional debates. The Constitution was written on May 25 through September 17, 1787.
In the 1700s, while still fragile from winning its independence from Great Britain during the Revolutionary War, the Founding Fathers identified the need for a structured and sound government, as the government was weak and disjointed in its infancy as its own sovereignty. Their visionary leadership spawned the creation of the United States (US) Constitution in 1787, which laid the foundation for security policy critical to the protection America against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The US Constitution outlined the construct and distributed powers that established and enabled the growth of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government. Over the past 228 years, which is how long it’s been since the Constitution was ratified, there have been 43 Presidents and 113 congresses, all who were empowered by the people, as set forth in the US Constitution to “establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity (www.archives.gov)”. Article II, Section 1 of the United States Constitution grants executive power to the President of the United
The Importance of the 1st Amendment In 1787 our founding fathers assembled the constitution of the United States of America. Of this which contains the most important document to the American citizen, the Bill of rights. The first Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances” These freedoms granted by the Bill of Rights are often known as freedom of expression. These rights are most important to a truly free society. The first amendment provides us with new ideas and dismisses the fear of punishment
The Bill of Rights is one of the most important governing documents in the United States. It comprises the first ten amendments to the Constitution, and it addressed the main concern people had of the constitution at the time; that it gave too much power to a centralized government. The first of these amendments was created to allow people freedom of expression. It specifies that people have freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition to voice and spread their opinions in the public domain. The most fundamental part of the 1st amendment is freedom of speech.
Chapter 4 of the book We the People talks about Civil Liberties, this chapter mainly talks about the Rights that were placed in the Constitution (not in the Bill of Rights), it also talks about the Bill of Rights and it describes the rights protected by the Bill of Rights. It also talks about specific rights that work close together with the Bill of Rights and Amendments rights. One of the first Amendments that is described in great detail is Freedom of Speech and Religion. The first Amendment protects US citizens right to talk about almost any topic in the United States. I said almost any topic because there are some forms of speech that aren’t protected by the First Amendment (these forms of speech can be limited or prohibited), some of the forms of speech that aren’t protected by the First Amendment are Fighting Words and Hate Speech, Student Speech, Libel and Slander speech.
The First Amendment was written because American citizens demanded a guarantee of their freedom. This led to James Madison writing the First Amendment. The First Amendment was established when the Founding Fathers wanted to guarantee that the Americans ' basic civil liberties would not be threatened by the government. The First Amendment was confirmed, along with nine other amendments,to the constitution of the United States. The First Amendment states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
The First Amendment is the first section of the Bill of Rights and is considered the most important part of the U.S Constitution because it offers the citizens of United States the essential human freedoms of religion, freedom of speech, press, peaceful assembly and the freedom to petition the Government. The first amendment rights are not provided by the government, indeed these are the rights that people inherently possess. This amendment is not only an important amendment but also a controversial amendment in Bill of Rights. Specifically, this piece of writing explains freedom of religion and the freedom of speech below.
