There are five types of information systems:
3.1 Transaction processing systems (TPS)
Created to process standard transactions systematically and correctly. An organisation can have a number of TPS, for example:
• A sale item in the retail outlet
• Invoicing systems to dispatch statement of charges to customers
• Systems to work out wages, salaries and levy remittance
• Manufacturing and buying systems to work out unprocessed material essentials

3.2 Management information systems (MIS)
MIS is essentially associated with interior sources of information. MIS captures data from the TPS and sums it up into a sequence of administrative records. Intermediate level management and operational directors mostly use MIS records.
