Control and keep your mind and body healthy. Use always your left and right brain. Have a hobby that will increase your mental capacity. Use individual or group brainstorming to enhance your creativity and have an open mind. Mind mapping technique is also presented in this chapter. Brainstorming and mind mapping if used at the same time would result to lateralization thought. They also introduced the concept of NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming.
Chapter 10: Personal Health
Have a balanced life and make sure that you care for each aspect of your well being. Take short breaks and plan to put your energy to productive things. Relax to have an abundant energy. Have a healthy diet with vitamins. Monitor what you eat, and never skip meals.

Believe in yourself that you are important. Never let negative thoughts hold you back. Practice self affirmations. Self-affirmations that will encourage you, and will help you in the success you want. Believe, repeat, be positive, use the past and present tense and write in affirming one’s self. The other two that REF details are elaborative rehearsal and mnemonic devices. I use elaborative rehearsal all the time. To me, elaborative rehearsal is how I learn. For me learning something is building on what you already know and incorporating the new data or information into what is comfortable and known. I have never had much use for mnemonic devices.

Due to society, success is mostly viewed as a physical accomplishment. Ivan Chino, National Guard Soldier/NIU graduate, is not only a successful person because of his accomplishments, but more over his work ethic. When asked what makes a person successful, Chino replied, “The road with reaching success comes with many obstacles, but it also involves setting a new bar to achieve a higher form of success.” Clearly, Chino’s view of success is to constantly set high goals, despite the obstacles that come along with them. The reason being is to never settle and strive for a higher level.

What does success mean to me? It means accomplishing things in life and reaching your goals. Everyone has a different view of what success actually is. Success also means setting a goal and reaching it in a time frame you set for yourself. For example I believe finishing college and gaining a career in a field you love is being successful because it is a goal that can be achieved.

For me, making the Texas Small School All-State Mixed Choir was my biggest accomplishment because it opened me up to new passions, taught me how to work hard, and set me on the path I am on today. In my sophomore year, I joined choir simply to get my fine arts credit out of the way.

However, what happens to our R-directed thinking skills? Creativity, empathy, and laughter, are all skills dominated by the right side of our brain. We live in a society dominated by L-directed thinking, but as our world changes, so does the way we think.
What does success mean to mean to me? It means doing things that will help you in life. I also think success mean to make you a better person. Being successful can be looked upon in many different ways, such as being rich, having nice car, good job, or anything to make someone else jealous of what you have.
