How a Leader Grows in Influence: The Five Levels of Influence
Following their discussion of how leaders grow personally, the authors transition their investigation of leadership development to consider the stages of leadership development. Diverging from the patterns of Maxwell and Collins, focusing primarily on how a follower perceives the leader's influence, Brady and Woodward concentrate on the internal process by which potential leaders acquire and expand their influence. This new perspective underscores several competencies essential to the sustained growth of personal influence; Learning, Performing, Leading, Developing Leaders, and Developing Developers (Brady, & Woodward, 2005, p. 123).

In this chapter, the authors expand upon their previous discussion of the foundational qualities of leadership development; namely, leaders must be teachable. Considering the pace at which the socio-economics of culture is changing, to remain relevant, leaders must learn as naturally as they breath. With Theodore's family being rich it gives him an advantage for becoming president because you need a lot of money to be president. Theodore Roosevelt was Vice President before he became president. Teddy Roosevelt was one of the most impactful presidents in US history, which is why he is carved into Mt. Rushmore. Teddy had a very hard childhood. Both his mother and his deeply admired father died at very young ages, when Teddy was very young. Teddy was teased and bullied as a young kid, but remained a good student with great grades throughout his school career. Theodore had a very spotty education, but somehow ended up receiving a college education at Harvard University.

Theodore Roosevelt set the nation on the path to growth that would last throughout the 20th Century. By the time Roosevelt left office he had forever changed the influence of the presidency making him one of the best US presidents through protecting the environment, passing a safety act, and settling a strike. Franklin Roosevelt had a hard time while being a president but all the studying he did at school and the people that surrounded him helped him get through it a lot easier. FDR, shortened for Franklin Delano Roosevelt, was born January 30th, 1882 in New York ("Franklin D. Roosevelt.”). He was a very smart boy from the very start because of his good teaching parents.
