The Flood Archetype is about a devastating flood that ends human civilization, but people have to rebuild civilization with the hope of a golden age. In the flood archetype, there is a god that wipes out all of human civilization for being spiteful; Although the god wipes out all of human civilization, there is a chosen person that has to build an ark or a shelter in order to survive the massive, catastrophic flood. Noah’s Ark, a Biblical story in the Old Testament, is about a man named Noah who is told by God to make an ark in preparation for the flood when God says, “I will wipe out from the earth the men whom I have created… But Noah found favor with the Lord”. God floods Earth as a result of human’s cruel, violent tendencies
Introduction In Noah Count and the Arkansas Ark by Gary Blackwood the narrator’s point of view about his family’s lack of education changes throughout the story. Paragraph One At, the beginning, the narrator’s point of view about his family’s lack of education was that none of their reasons were logical or that he is smarter than them. He thinks this because after his granny and his parent’s reasons for rain stated in paragraph 7 the narrator states that “I’d been going to school for a while, you see, and I thought I knew just about everything.”
Gary Blackwood uses his short story, “Noah Count and the Arkansas Ark” to teach the different varieties of education and why we should value them. The narrator goes through a hard time trying to embrace his family and how their grammar is different from the rest of the community. Blackwood includes many ways that shows the readers why we should value everyone’s education, and also how the main character feelings change about it. There are many times when his thought process is changed.

During this chapter, Noah tells a story about his dog Fufi. Young Noah was absolutely heartbroken when he found out that his dog had another family that she secretly visited during the day. Both Noah’s family and the other family thought that the dog was their own, and both refused to accept that she actually had two families. The intense feeling of betrayal after this occurrence is communicated through this anecdote: “I sobbed the entire way home, still heartbroken” (100). Even though he was hurt, Noah also learned a lot from his first heartbreak.
In the passage “Noah Count and the Arkansas Ark” by Gary Blackwood; the Appleton family demonstrates to the son the that even without proper education there is still other kinds of education even though he doubted them. The reason he doubted them was that they never had a proper education that is taught at school. The father’s nickname was Noah because he was building a raft to escape the flood that was coming into Mississippi. The way the family was able to make the narrators view about their education change was due to that it was raining even though there weren’t any clouds, their early preparation, and that they found good land to wait out the flood and got back to their farms. Even though the narrator stated that there were no clouds the rain and the flash flood still happened.
The Lord looked down on the Earth and saw it was all evil exepted for one man whos heart was pure the man was Noah. Noah had three sons their names where Shem, Ham, and Japheth. God told Noah to build an ark. Noah asked his sons if they could help. Shem, Ham, and Japheth asked their wives to help too.
Discussion Week Two Questions 1. Similarities: In both versions of the myth, with the group of gods in the Sumerian version and the one God in the Israeli version, the gods view the world as being corrupt and in need of cleansing. In the Sumerian version of the myth it reads, “The uproar of mankind is intolerable and sleep is no longer possible. So let the gods exterminate mankind.”
In Popol Vuh the gods try many times to create the perfect human. When they used mud, their creations dissolved into the water. When they used wood, their creations could speak, “But there was nothing in their hearts and nothing in their minds, no memory of their mason and builder”(Popol Vuh 81). The gods were angry about this because if the wood people could not remember their creators, the gods would not be worshipped. They destroyed these creations in very gruesome ways, one of the methods of destroying them being a flood.
Noah the Movie vs Scripture There are quite a few differences in the movie Noah than from the Bible. I didn’t like the movie as it wasn’t very accurate and is giving false depictions to anyone who doesn’t know scripture or what Genesis or the rest of the Bible says about these events. I am glad we read the Bible first and then watched the movie so we could really see the differences. In the movie, Noah was distant from God.
Even though both The Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis are similar in that they all use the floods for a destruction, both the stories are different from each other in the distribution of roles within the gods and a way to warn the extermination from the gods. First, the similarity between The Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis is the relevance with the flooding that used to exterminate the human. To prove the occurrence of the flood, chapter 5 of The Epic of Gilgamesh records, “For six days and six nights the winds blew, torrent and tempest and flood overwhelmed the world, tempest and flood raged together like warring hosts (line 62-63, p. 21)”. Also in Genesis, the text “The waters flooded the earth for a hundred
Noah’s Ark is an oil on masonite painting done by Aaron Douglas in 1927. The 48 by 36 inches painting is currently on display at The Carl Van Techten Gallery of Fine Arts at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. The representational portrait painting shows an outdoors scene. There is a source of light coming from the top right corner. Following down the painting, there is a man at the front of a large boat, pointing to the left.
The main differences between the two are the length of the flood and what birds were released after the rain
Around 4000 BCE, environment conditions finally settled into the pattern we see today (Origin myths, 37). In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Ea, the cleverest of the gods, warned Utnapishtim that the gods would be sending the great flood to wipe out humankind. Utnapishtim then builds a boat to save as many people as he can and every living creature. After seven days, Utnapishtim released a dove and raven to find dry land. The Great Flood story is very similar all around the world, as we can find similar stories in West Asia, South Asia, and China
This claim, however, is also incorrect. Without even thinking about rain, there is already enough water on Earth to cover all land by 1.7 miles (Was There Really a Noah’s Ark & Flood?). Contrary to all of the theories that could say that the Genesis Flood did not occur, there is simply too much evidence proving that the extraordinary event did occur and Noah’s Ark is the vessel found on Mount
