The definition of cognitivism is the belief that much of human behavior can be understood in terms of how people think (Sternberg, 2012) .Cognitivism is study how the psychology that focuses on mental processes including how people perceive, remember, think, solve the problem, learn, and direct their attention to one stimulus rather than another. Psychologists working from a cognitivist perspective to understand cognition. its from the work of Jean Piaget and rooted in Gestalt psychology. Cognitivism has been prominent in psychology since the 1960s. Willhelm Wundt started the first psychology laboratory in 1879 in Leipzig, Germany. He believed in "the development of introspection as a means for studying the mind." (Cognitivism) Though he was not specifically involved in the field of Educational Psychology, he began the study of the mind. Therefore, he is an important name in the history of psychology, educational or otherwise. There are four stages of Cognitive Development from Jean Piaget. The first stage is a sensorimotor stage. This stage is typically lasts until a child is about two years old. During that time, a child explores the everything about their world through the senses touch, taste, sound, sight, and smell. A child will develop an awareness that things and people exist even when the child is not there and also a child will also develop some motor skills during this time.
