The world we live in is becoming more and more complex and ever-changing with megatrends that are radically shifting the context of the workforce, workplace and the world of work. The competitive workforce that managers face today and will continue to confront in the future demands organizational excellence, which is achieved through the work of HR. In roughly 5 to 15 years, HRM will see fundamental and profound changes in its practices. Taking into consideration the big picture of HRM, this essay will analyze the possible elements that will grow in importance and the key skills needed for success for future HRM.

That said, HRM will see changes in the type of employee and what they look for in the workplace. Firstly, holistic workers will become more ubiquitous. There is an increase in people’s need for opportunities to make meaningful contributions to the organization as well as society. For individuals, the attention to social responsibility will become a high priority in 5 to 15 years’ time. People will want to work for for an organization that serves a purpose which they feel passionate about. According the recent research, 78% of youth indicated that happiness was as important as financial success. They believe that work should bring them joy and a sense of fulfillment, which creates engagement and motivation, consequentially increasing productivity and performance. Second of all, people are expecting lifelong growth. Employees of the future will be less goal-driven and more growth-driven. They want be challenged and value the importance of growth so they always strive for higher, better future and never plateau once they reach a level of success. Finally, people are expecting the freedom to choose how, when and where they work. In my view, innovative and the future HRM means more opportunity and freedom for individuals. Richard Branson says that one day, offices “will be a thing of the past” and that is proving to the truth for the future world of work.
