Social Media and Its Future Since its creation, the world is in a continuous evolution; an evolution that has been marked by many revolutions changing the way in which the human eye perceives the world, mainly the industrial revolution in the XVIII century, the atomic bomb in the XX century and the social media most recently. But what’s the social media? According to Kaplan and Haenlein the social media is “a group of Internet-based applications built on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, that allows the creation and exchange of User Generated Content” (61) which means in a simpler way that social “refers to the interaction of people and also to creating, sharing, exchanging and commenting contents in virtual communities and networks” (Ahlqvist, Bäck, …show more content…

All that lead us to question ourselves: in what extent the social media are contributing to the development of the human culture? What are their advantages and disadvantages? What are their future? And what are our expectations? Therefore, one the first hand, we are going to spotlight on the benefits of social media, then we will be telling about its future and anticipating its evolution.

First of all, social media has a huge profit distributed on different levels of the society, thus we can count the economic and marketing level, and of course the social level, taking into consideration individuals, families and children.
In marketing, where the message has to get to the markets in every possible way, social media is considered as a new modern effective tool. This medium compared to the traditional marketing (like print, television, etc.) is low cost and this is the main advantage of social media marketing according to Weinberg (2009) , since the majority of social media sites are free to access.
