Have you ever wondered if there could possibly be a community where no one has any idea of normal everyday things? Well then the Giver is just one example. The Giver has a long history, and it all started with Lois Lowry’s dad and how he forgot his memory of any bad thing and Lois Lowry started thinking what a Community would be like without any painful memories and she came up with The Giver. The Giver revolves around a young boy named Jonas who was chosen to be the new Receiver of Memory which is the highest honor in his community. While Jonas is training he gets all of the memories that everyone else in the community has and then starts to think why can’t other people have these memories he then comes up with a plan to escape the community
The Giver is a novel by Lois Lowry, about a dystopian society. At the beginning of the book, Jonas was obedient and loyal to his community; but when he gets assigned the job of the receiver he gains knowledge about his community which including colors, animals, and most of all, feelings. When Jonas learns these things, his opinion about his community changes, and he starts to feel resentment, anger, and hatred. At the beginning of the book, Jonas felt loyal and obedient toward his community.
The Giver was the only one who could relate with Jonas and understand his pain and also his happiness as he received each memory. Wihout The Giver, Jonas would have not been able to complete his task. Although it was The Givers job to give relate painful memories to Jonas he also tried to give Jonas happy memories even giving him his favorite memory of grandparents and
The Giver looked down at him, his face contorted with suffering. ‘Please’ he gasped, take some of the pain.” (Lowry 149). This excerpt shows that even an assured brave man like the Giver suffers greatly when forced to bear a weight this colossal alone. Jonas is the one person that the Givers trusts and confides in, the one person that he uses to lean on in these kinds of times.
Jonas’ Hardships Lois Lowry, the author, wrote a novel titled “The Giver” which took place in a dystopian society with ideas like climate control, sameness, and precision of language. The main character, Jonas, was selected for the assignment “The Receiver of Memory” and this assignment caused him many hardships. Throughout the story, Jonas faces many hardships related to his assignment, his friends, and the community. The theme to the story is overcoming obstacles because Jonas has to conquer many hardships throughout the novel.
In The Giver, Lois Lowry shows her readers what it is like to live in a society with no diversity, no color, and no freedom. In this society, there is a twelve-year old boy, named Jonas, who finds the truth about life outside of his community. He does not have the option of choice, and he is stuck in a futuristic world of “sameness”. Jonas’ world is dull, and he wants to change it because it does not have the amazing features and opportunities that he learns about. In this story, Lois Lowry is warning her readers that too much conformity can lead to no freedom and no true happiness.

When Jonas leaves the community he accomplishes going to a place with warmth, love, color. Jonas hopes that by leaving the community he is breaking the tradition of the Giver and the Receiver bearing all the memories. .Jonas changes throughout The Giver and as a result, tries to change the community. Jonas is a 12 year old boy with no emotions or feelings.
The Giver by Lois Lowry, is about a perfect community where a boy named Jonas is chosen to carry the weight of something that makes him question him and his community’s way of life. When the book was made into a movie in 2014, even though it was well done, it had its differences. They almost created a different story. Despite this, it still matched the story we all have come to know. You do not realize how much you take things for granted until you lose them.
In some regions, death is a word people wail and mourn over, while in others speaking about it is a taboo. This is taken to the extreme in the dystopian book, The Giver, by Lois Lowry. The community in the book sees death in an altered way compared to how the real world does, seeing it for it’s practical uses instead of having emotional ties like the physical reality, which sparks debates on where the line is in terms of the idea of death and whether using death as a tool is ethical. When someone in the real world dies, the people who knew that person mourn them.
Jonas’s society is extremely different than the one we live in today. The first difference between The Giver and our society is the number of family members. Literary Analysis: The Giver Imagine a world where everything seems perfect but truly it is not as pleasant as it appears. In The Giver by Lois Lowry shows us a community in the future with no feelings at all. Jonas a twelve year old boy knows his life as it is and one evening he learns the truth about the community. Jonas set’s off into a adventure to change it all. Character,conflict,and symbolism makes the reader see thru the eyes of a twelve year old in a place of slavery disguised without anyone knowing it.
Imagine a place where everything is the same, there is no color, and you can 't make decisions for yourself. Jonas thinks that he lives in a utopia, but really he lives in a place like this. Jonas is the main character in The Giver by Lois Lowry. Jonas is an eleven year old, soon to be twelve. He feels apprehensive about being twelve.
The Giver was a really great book to read in my opinion it was really great for it's unexpecting cliff hangers. There was confusion between an amount of unexpecting people about the ending in The Giver. As well as all the the people I to have some confusion over so I made ways to make The Giver not so confusing I’m going to retell all that happens. Why are some people people confused because at the end something may happen is it Jonas hallucinating or is he seeing the elsewhere he is looking for. I will stop stalling anyway let me get on with the retelling.
