What does censorship mean? The term comes from the latin word censere, “to give as one’s opinion, to assess.” Applied to modern times, it is the oppression of ideas or information found as obscene, therefore restricted from an audience. The United States has asserted to stand for the liberty of its people, along with the promise to protect them. The protection includes censorship in books, movies, etc. The first book to be ever banned in the U.S. was in the 1600’s, and the banning of books has not stopped since then. A long list of banned books has built up, including J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye and John Knowles’ A Separate Peace.

In The Scorch Trials by James Dashner, Thomas a teenager learns that WICKED is untrustworthy. To begin with, Thomas and the gladers defend the Safe Haven from WICKED. There forth, Thomas and the gang escape from WICKED’s test facility. There, they meet scorch survivors Jorge and Brenda at the crank asylum. From there Thomas and Brenda get split from the group, in which they meet up at the Safe Haven. All along Teresa tricks them and leads WICKED to the Safe Haven where undoubtedly they destroy the camp and take Mino. In the end, Thomas saves the Safe Haven and makes a promise to get Mino

The main characters in the book Is a boy named Nick,and a girl named Summer. Nick is brave,smart, and sneaky. Summer is intelligent,trustworthy, and friendly. Nick finds out about a time portal from his grandpa. This story takes place in Detroit. Nick and summer found an egg when dinosaurs was once roaming. Soon they found out it was a T-Rex.

In chapter 6, Jem, Dill, and Scout go over to the Radley house on Dill’s last night to try and see Boo Radley through a window. Instead, they see a shadowy figure in the yard and a gunshot goes off, scaring them and forcing them to run away from the property. While they are running away, Jem loses his pants and leaves them behind. Once they get back home, they join the group outside huddled near the Radley house. Jem is questioned about where his pants are and responds with how he lost them in a game of strip poker. Later that night, Jem returns to the Radley house to retrieve his pants. When he receives them, they are folded over the fence and have been sewed where the tear was.

The book has many characters with very different personalities. The book has unexpected twists and turns throughout it. The novel involves kidnappers, a dragon and (of course) the 5 children from Miami that know nothing about what they’re getting into.

In the book Old Yeller, by Fred Gipson, Old Yeller is a dog who protects and helps Travis Coates and his family when Papa goes off on a cattle drive. When there is danger Old Yeller would be the one who comes in and saves the day. Mama is Travis and Arliss’s mother and takes care of them when Travis’s father leaves. Arliss is Travis’s brother and is adventurous and playful, which sometimes gets him in trouble and danger. Bud Searcy and his daughter Lisbeth are neighbors and when the Travis family were struggling, they come and help them. Burn Sanderson is a new to the place and is there original owner of Old Yeller.

Mental Illness affects an immense amount of individuals no matter their race, culture or age. It is everywhere we go, yet still an issue some choose to ignore; whether it is the person facing the illness or those around them. People handle their sickness in a variety of ways. Some by using violence as their only answer, others run away from their issue and majority choose to accept and make the best of it. After reading the novel The Secret Life of Bees, it would be easy to think that the main theme is discrimination or family, but in reality it is actually focused on the toll that mental illness takes on a family. The protagonist of this novel, Lily Owens, has always had a troublesome life. Both her parents, Terrence Owens, also known as T. Ray, and Deborah Fontanel are ridden with illness, sadly caused from each other. Lily also meets a new family in this novel after running away from her cruel father who abuses her. This family is also dealing with mental illness. August Boatwright is a member of this family and has been surrounded by this sickness for more than half of her life. Two of her sisters have this problem and it has genuinely affected August for better or worse.

Tim Johnson was a recognizable dog in Maycomb County, Alabama. Tim Johnson was regarded as “The pet of Maycomb county”(105). This title is very interesting. This means Tim Johnson is the mascot for the people of Maycomb. Tim Johnson’s owner was Mr. Harry Johnson. Mr. Harry Johnson traveled in a mobile bus and lived on the southern part of town. Tim Johnson is introduced in chapter ten. This is the first time in the book Tim Johnson is mentioned. Tim Johnson is suspected to have rabies by the children at first glance. After running for help, it is agreed the dog is not in a healthy state. The dog having rabies causes the neighborhood to stand still. Atticus Finch is given the job to put the dog down. He successfully stops the dog. Even though Tim dies, this is not the last time the scene is mentioned. This scene is mentioned during important moments in the book. Tim Johnson was not just a lovely dog that was unexpectedly infected by rabies. He was not just introduced for entertainment. Tim Johnson was introduced to for a far greater reason. This scene is a revelation to the reader. This scene reveals how Atticus Finch is always called upon to the dirty work for the county. Atticus does not run, but rather stand up and complete the task that is always given to him. It was not as simple as just shooting a mad

The maze runner is a young adult, science fiction and post-apocalyptic book that has the purpose of introducing the reader into a fantasy world where things can get a little out of control and surviving remains the main focus. The story starts mysteriously with the title character named Thomas, a teenage boy, who wakes up with no memory after arriving with a moving box into a Glade surrounded by a Maze. The book explores different psychological stages of the characters and help up understand how it is like to live with no memory and surrounded by people you do not know. The author, a young man also, has a particular interest in adventure and survival plots due to their excitement upon readers.

In the novel “The Maze Runner” James Dashner portrays the artificial society in the middle of flare. Dystopia is a representation of imperfect society and survival is one of the emerging themes in dystopian literature. Every human learned to survive in their certain society and made the pathways to their future. Dystopian literature would focus on the ruined society and it was important and hard to survive. James Dashner in his novel “The Maze Runner” tested the youngsters’ brain to seek their future in the middle of the pressure. The youngsters alone had to survive with their limited possibilities. Thomas, one of the teenagers helped the other to solve the maze and to escape the glade. With the arrival of Thomas in Glade, the life of the Gladers is explained. This article speaks about the dystopian society and how the Gladers manage to survive in the middle of unknown terror.

In the invigorating novel A Bad Day for Voodoo we follow the main character Tyler Churchill as he goes through the struggles of his sophomore year, unfair teachers, girlfriend problems, and losing a voodoo doll powerful enough to kill. When Tyler’s history teacher accuses him of cheating Tyler’s friend Adam says he has a plan to get back at Mr. Click for failing Tyler’s test. The next week Adam shows Tyler the plan, a voodoo doll that, rather poorly, resembles Mr. Click. Tyler, like most of us if we were in such a situation, does not believe that this voodoo doll will be anything more than a scam and a waste of money. However, when Tyler sticks the doll in the leg Mr. Click’s leg flies across the room and he ends up at the hospital. During this Tyler and Adam freak out over the fact that the doll is much more powerful than either of them could have dreamed of this leads to Tyler and Adam having a fight about what they should do regarding the doll, do they keep it or throw it away? During this fight the doll smashes against the wall of its box and it’s neck breaks. Fearfully Adam and Tyler look on the local news and find that Mr. Click died

The book takes place in Concord, Massachusetts and is about 4 girls named Emma Hawthorne, Jess Delaney, Cassidy Sloane and Megan Wong. Their mom's know how insecure they feel about themselves and how closed off they all can be unless they are by themselves. They create a club for all of their daughters where they can learn about one another and become friends while also experiencing the joys of literature. The book begins when the characters of the book are at school or at their club and they are not friends and feel as if they can truly be themselves when they are by themselves. Several students ask who it is, unknowing that it is Jessica before the accident she was in. Jessica tells a lie and says that it is her sister, Anne. People wondered if Anne went to school with some of their younger siblings. Jessica adds to the story that Anne died and leaves the classroom for a burn treatment at the nearby hospital. After Jessica leaves, many students were making twisted stories of what they thought killed Anne and burned Jessica so badly. At the end of the day, Jeff asks Tom to come over after school. Tom declines and makes an excuse. Then Mrs.Tracy asks Tom to bring Jessica’s homework to her, since she lived nearby. Jeff gets upset because Tom lied about having something to do. Tom talks with Jessica for the first time. He then gets stopped by Mr. Feeney on the way out and he talks with Mr. Feeney and finds out that Jessica never had a sister, and that she made the story up. Tom also learned how the accident Jessica was in happened. Soon, it comes to the day when Jeff and Tom were planning on taking a ride in the Cobra. Attractively vivid characters, beautiful language and slow tempo are employed instead of the prevalent compact story plot, for the sake of creating a “thrilling suspense”.[2] As a result of “endlessly propulsive plot”,[4] the boy’s journey is mainly divided into five episodes, namely, the bomb accident, life with the Barbours, moving to Las Vages, reunion with Hobie and criminal activities in Amsterdam. The first part of the book (Part 1-2) reveals the helplessness and loneliness of a near-orphan adolescent, while the second half (Part 3-5) explores his metamorphosis.
