Although there are many people may not think the same as me, but eye for an eye is not a good tool to determine a punishment. The biggest reason is that the bible says not to. The next reasons is two wrongs do not make a right. Two wrongs do not make a right. First and foremost, the bible says no to seek out for vengeance. The bible has thirty verse about. Romans 12 nineteen says “vengeance is mine, I will repay says the Lord”. What that verse is saying is that people are not supposed to get vengeance because he will do it in the end. His revenge may not be as fast as people may like, but he will take care of it. In addition, two wrongs do not make a right. If someone does something mean to you and you turn around and do something mean back, nothing is resolved. The situation becomes worse because you have dropped down to their level. Then when you have dropped down to their level then that makes you look like a bad person. Try to resolve the problem and not get even. …show more content…
If somebody punches somebody else then the golden rule says that they want want to be punched. If somebody steals from somebody else the golden rule also says that they want stuff stole from them. The golden rule is just used for an excuse to get revenge. What the golden rule actually means is that you treat other nicely so that they treat you kindly also. In conclusion, revenge is eye for an eye is not a good thing to go by. The bible says revenge is wrong. The next reasons is two wrongs do not make a right. That is why not to go be eye for an
My reaction to code of Hammurabi is that it is wrong to have this mentality for some types of crimes. For instance it would be wrong to chop the hand off of a thief because what he/she is taking can be brought back or replaced. Sometimes the thief will steal for basic things like food. This eye for an eye can be used for certain murder cases. For example if a person kills another person just for the benefit of that individual.
In America’s society today there are many basic commandments that we must follow such as Southern hospitality. Young children use their manners when they are in the presence of their elders, men being gentlemen to women, don’t take another person’s life, uses common courtesy, listen to people that you look up to, and also the golden rule do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Why are the commandments so important in today’s society? Southern hospitality is helping people without asking for their kindness. For example being welcoming and having a pleasant spirit such as when people visit your home, helping the less fortunate at the homeless shelters.
But one wrong doesn 't make a right, either. People who have been wronged will attempt to right the wrong; they would not be people if they
Betrayal comes in many shapes and sizes. Everyone eventually gets betrayed even if it’s by family or friends maybe even a girlfriend or boyfriend. In my case it’s family. My dad to be exact. When you get betrayed it damages you.
Revenge is an emotional response to real or imagined injury or insult which requires punishment in return. This is done more on feeling than by law. The second goal is retribution (Schmalleger & Smykla, 2015). Retribution involves the payment of a debt to both the victim and society. The way this is explained is an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
An Eye for an Eye ¨An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.¨ The speaker of this quote, Mahatma Gandhi, was trying to express how evil revenge can be. When someone feels as if they have been wronged, they will stop at nothing to get their way and prove they’re not someone to mess with. The situation can only get worse because everyone has been blinded by their hatred. Actions can irritate someone even if they weren’t intended to.
Most individuals, usually who have been hurt by another, have vices and start to take matter into their own hands. However, in the Bible it says that a person should not, “repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:17-18). This verse shows us that one should not take revenge, rather they should forgive.
Ishmael learned from his own experience that revenge never gives you the justice you are searching for. Getting revenge doesn’t bring anybody back from the dead, it doesn’t fix any problem and it doesn’t heal the pain inside of you. Readers should take this lesson to heart because, we don’t have to learn the hard way like Ishmael; we can learn
Revenge is a real thing in today’s society. It happens every day. There are different reasons for revenge from as small, as a small child stealing a stick of gum to a drug dealer murdering a nark. Regardless, taking revenge in itself may be for the greater good, or evil.
For instance, Oberon tricks Titania, his wife, to get revenge on her for stealing the Indian baby. While Titania is asleep, he tricks her by saying, “What thou seest when thou dost wake, Do it for thy love take; Love and languish for his sake. Be it ounce,or cat, or bear, Pard, or boar with bristled hair, In thy eye that shall appear” (Shakespeare.20.2.66). People use revenge as a source of control to get back at someone for “wronging” them. By controlling who she loves, Oberon now has the power to get revenge on
After being wronged, it is human nature to want to get even. No matter how many times someone tells someone else to do unto others as you would have them do unto you, it never sticks. Human nature is, was, and always will be to make sure that whoever made the pain receives the same. This was shown in Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible.
Revenge can cause more damage than the original injury. Even in old Greek days people used revenge to hurt one another. In the ancient Greek tragedy Medea, a young woman named Medea gave up her family, home and country to be with a man named Jason. As they moved on in life, Jason then decided that he would leave her and his children for the princess, a royal bed. This caused Medea to be vengeful and go out on a rampage.
The action of vengeance does not resolve the original issue and in fact, creates internal struggles, while forgiveness allows for a greater sense of happiness. Acting on vengeful feelings, although a seemingly useful answer, does not truly resolve any issues. This is expressed when Prospero asks, "But are they, Ariel, safe?"
Feuds are passed from generation to generation, vengeance a filial duty governed by a 15th-century canon, which is in turn interpreted by a Blood Feud Committee” (Forna 2). Some societies believe revenge is the only way to forgiveness, which we know is untrue. Simply having a
