In the world today, people are more focused on their cell phones and other technology than the world outside of them. Technology has given us many new things to make things in life much easier. A cell phone allows for people to contact others from almost anywhere in the world. This is something people would have never thought would be possible. Although cell phones are very nice they can distract people from the world around them and the things it has to offer. With every good thing in this world there is always something bad that may be affecting the things that sit in the background without anyone knowing it. By neglecting the environment and forgetting about the consequences that technology may bring to it, people do not realize that the lack of relationship with the environment can lead to devastating …show more content…
Are people really trying to prevent pollution from altering the environment? Some may say yes but most people do not realize how quickly that pollution can alter the environment. In the story “The Grand Canyon: A Whole New World” by Walter Kirn, he states how beautiful the Grand Canyon really is by saying “It confounded my senses and rendered them nearly useless” (39). The Grand Canyon is said to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Technology today can distract people from seeing beautiful things like this in person. People becoming engulfed in a technological way of life it can lead to many not realizing what is happening to places like this. Pollution is the environment can lead to all of the wildlife in and around the Grand Canyon to die or become seriously affected by it. It will start to infect the beautiful waters and spread to everything around it in which it can come into contact with. If people would take time off of technology and enjoy the spectacular beauties of nature they could help clean the environment and keep it clean for generations to
“The Analogy on Canyons” “In true dialogue, both sides are willing to change. ”-Nhát Hanh In the story Canyons by Gary Paulsen, the author uses characterization and Dialogue to develop the story. Dialogue and characterization both help the story Canyons by showing the thoughts and conversations to make the story flow and to emphasize the character.
The book Canyons by Gary Paulsen is about the strange connection between Brennan, a present-time 14-year-old boy, and Coyote Runs, a 14-year-old Apache boy. He is very excited to go on his first raid and become a man. The story takes place in El Paso, Texas, which has a very hot climate and is nestled by many mountains, cliffs, and canyons. Brennan loves to run, but he says that he does it for himself. The track coach urges him to play but he won’t.
We cannot experience this beauty and understand its value from far away. Leaving out/keeping out "tourists" from natural (wide views of nature scenes/wide areas of beautiful land) as Church argues, leaves out/keeps out a majority of the public from experiencing and fighting for (related to surrounding conditions or the health of the Earth) rights. If only a select few have experienced natural sights such as the Grand Canyon, only a few people will have an emotional connection and true will to fight to protect it. In order to appreciate (the health of the Earth/the surrounding conditions) we wish to protect, we need to understand its value
Also, the canyon is home to a rare flower called a plum leaf Azalea. National parks sometimes have mentors to take you around the park and to teach you about the park. This would be so exciting for the kids and teens if they got to go. Yes, the Providence Canyon State Park should be made into a National Park. This would show the importance and beauty of the Little Grand Canyon.
We consistently destroy our ozone, over fish and destroy ecosystems. I love the connection Ishmael made between bible fables and the leavers point of view. The narrator learned that there are different points of view to a single event. Us, as human must learn this lesson, then we can finally come together and work towards a more sustainable
Turkle states that, “the mere presence of a phone on a table between them (two people) or in the periphery of their vision changes both what they talk about and the degree of connection they feel.” While this may be true, along with the other studies on how technology is detrimental to society, there as also positives aspects that contribute to society as well. “It is not about giving our phones but about using them with greater intention” (Turkle). This quote by Turkle embodies how I feel about the technology debate and the more new technology and phones have developed the more we have analyzed whether or not they are good for our society, and at what age kids should use them.
Big businesses and oil companies are destroying the environment by carbon emissions. They are laying a blind eye to what their actions are causing. Their jobs mean money for them and they don’t consider the major effects their actions are causing just like in Avatar. The humans didn’t take the Navis sacred sites and environment into account, they just did it for the money.
The fictional story “Canyons” by Gary Paulsen is an average and predictable book meant for younger ages than middle schoolers. “Canyons” is set in El Paso, Texas in a small, poor town which is a few miles away from a nature-protected canyon called “Dog Canyon’’. There are 2 main characters, one is Coyote Runs. Coyote is a young boy (14 years) who is determined to become a man in his tribe.
Have you ever seen something so majestic and awe inspiring that it simply overwhelms all thought, such instances in life are rare, however when you witness one they become one of the true moments of wonder in life. Such a moment happened to me when I visited the Grand Canyon, it was truly a marvel to behold stretching as far as the eye could see, and one witnessing it can’t help but feel unbearably small in our suddenly very big world. The Grand Canyon is one of those places in this world where you simply must visit before you die or you haven’t truly lived yet. The Grand Canyon has widely been regarded as one of few natural wonders of the world, this statement however fails to fully encompass the truly overwhelming presence felt when in front of such an awe-inspiring location.
The Grand Canyon made me feel meager compared to my surroundings. Normally, being around people and things that are made to be at human scale, does not make you feel big or small, just normal. When you go out into the wild, there are plenty of things that can make you feel large or tiny. For example, ants, small leaves, specks of dirt can make us feel really big. Sometimes, things are so small that they are not even noticed.
Karin 20/08/2014 English 8A Nearly everyday in our lives, we see banners, magazines, newspapers, as well as posters telling us to be environmental friendly and to stop pollution. But do people listen to the advices? Do people realize that pollution is one of the biggest global killers? Pollution is the number 1 cause of death in the developing world; it kills approximately 10 million people every year. It’s hard to tell when and where pollution began.
The ever-changing environment that surrounds us is another influence of mine. The environment is currently suffering from pollution and we humans are creating a mass of it. Emissions from manufacturing plants, the burning of fossil fuels, and household and farm chemicals are all ways humans are polluting the environment. And this issue has brought upon great concern for me as well as many others.
In my opinion, the article is entirely true. Human beings are destructive to the environment that they live in, and they do this despite knowing that the destruction will come back to harm them. Following the article, we find that human beings assault the environment at an arming rate. We are continuously using harmful substances such as fertilizers and pesticides and these are harmful to the environment. A good example of the effect of environmental destruction is the global decline in the population of the honey bees.
This shows that due to human advancement in technology we have in a sense changed the environment for the worst. The global
As technology rapidly advances, we continue to use gases and other resources to keep this movement in motion. While technology is advancing and many people get to enjoy the perks of having a working car and large factories to make affordable purchases, this is coming at a price much steeper than most people would realize. While we continue putting these gases into the air, it continues to wreak havoc on our environment, causing our ozone to deplete, glaciers shrink, change in plant and animal ranges during migration, with longer and more intense heat waves. As climate change continues to worsen, temperatures will continue to rise, droughts will become more common and worsen, hurricanes will become more destructive, and our arctic glaciers will continue to melt.
