A thorough analysis of The Greats Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, demonstrate a woman named Daisy is pressured to act according to the current era ethics. Although John reassures her many times that he’s not with Abby anymore, she still worries that he’s having an affair because of the way Abby blushes around him at church.
He has so many bad behaviors and Daisy looks past them. She knows Tom is having affairs but she never confronts him about it. She is supposed to be a trophy wife and she is until Gatsby came back into her life. She is also blinded by love, she cannot decide between the two men in her life. Tom has the more respectable “old money,” during the time and Gatsby has her love and best interest.
American dream is achieve when a person having a car, money, big house, happy family and nice clothes. The dream is represented by the ideas of a self-sufficient man or woman, who works hard to achieve a goal to become successful. Based on the novel of The Great Gatsby it shows about what happened to the American Dream in the 1920’s, which is a time period when the dreams became corrupted for many reasons. Not only the corruption of American Dream that happen in this story but American Dream also has caused destruction and can be seen through Daisy, Myrtle and Gatsby. The theme of American Dream can be seen through Daisy’s hope for happiness.
Like Daisy, Myrtle cheats on her husband and had an affair with another man who is Tom Buchanan. Myrtle wishes that she could live the upper class lifestyle rather to the poor lifestyle in which she is in. This leads to the disrespect towards her husband because she wants to leave her
The American dream is just a dream which can’t be implemented in the real world. While writing The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald described the actions of the human society by critiquing the high class and low class ultimately providing his view towards the American dream in 1920s. Throughout the book; “The Great Gatsby”, American dream is shown to be a corrupted dream that leads to destruction. Myrtle, Gatsby and Daisy are 3 main characters who have significantly shown to be corrupted and destroyed by this dream. The desire for high status and luxurious life is what draws Myrtle into establishing a relationship with Tom.
Gatsby is not the only one with twisted views as a result of unfaithfulness. Myrtle, George’s wife, is cheating on George with Tom in the book made clear here, “Wilson? He thinks she goes to see her sister in New York. He 's so dumb he doesn 't know he 's alive" (26). George suspects the cheating, but never truly discovers what is going on before she dies.
In addition, the author is trying to convey to the audience that Daisy is too secure in her marriage with Tom to even consider leaving it.
