1. “I sent one boy to the gas chamber at Huntsville”(3).
SETTING: This being the first sentence, it struck me as confusing, because unless it’s lingo, I don’t recall any gas chambers in the U.S. It also shows it’s not in the 21st century, as the death sentence has been abolished in many states, and would looked be down upon. It hints that this is a little older of a setting, and possibly a little more conservative.
2. “Somewhere out there is a true and living prophet of destruction and I don’t want to confront him. I know he’s real. I have seen his work”(4).
PRELUDING: Considering this is the second time re-reading the novel, it’s pretty clear now that Bell was talking about Chigurh. A man who is a sense, invincible and not afraid to kill

“The deputy was flailing wildly and he’d begun to walk sideways over the floor in a circle, kicking over the wastebasket, kicking the chair across the room. He had kicked shut the door and he wrapped the throw rug in a wad about them. He was gurgling and bleeding from the mouth. He was strangling on his own blood”(6).
CHARACTER TRAIT/ IMAGERY: The imagery expressed by McCarthy is absolutely phenomenal, bone chilling to say the least. The author makes a very clear image within the reader’s head, as if the person was witnessing this murder as it happened. It also shows how ruthless Chigurh truly is. He doesn’t care about ruthlessly killing a police officer. It’s evident Bell’s idea of a prophet of destruction is

“ Has something happened that you know about and I don 't? No. I could ask you the same thing. Expect I wouldn 't tell you. ”(128).
CHARACTER TRAIT: Moss’s wife is extremely loyal to him, it’s actually pretty amazing. She would rather keep his secrets with herself, than disobey his orders and tell the police. Along with the story about the moment they met they fell in love, is crazy! She was 16, and he was 33. This idea of “love at first sight”, is truly expressed in their relationship. I find that pretty astonishing.
22. “I get paid to be the first one hurt, killed, for that matter”(133).
CHARACTER TRAIT: Moss and his wife may not like Sheriff Bell, but damn is it hard to hate such a simple man. He is truly a good man, from knowing his wife is better than him, to acknowledging if he had to die for Moss, he would. People don’t understand how hard or how big that actually may be. He could of course simply let this case go, and not worry as it’s on such a massive scale, but no, he’d rather actually try to figure it out. He is truly a simple, yet great man.
23. “You think I’m like you. That it’s just greed. But I’m not like you. I live a simple
Great Gatsby is a new book to me. I have not read or watch any versions of this book, so this is my first time reading this book. I had completed Chapter 1 of the book, and this chapter makes me feels bored. Nick just talk about how his school life is and what had happen with him during his college years.
Altered Page Assignment- The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby is an eminent novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald which represents how the pursuit of the marred American Dream leads to the decay of true morality. Pages 174-175, which have been illustrated, are quite significant as it provides the readers with a greater depth of understanding as to how people are corrupted, as well as how there are still a few individuals who have preserved their virtuousness. Consequently, the majority of the characters in the novel were despicable as they were using Gatsby for achieving their own desires.
When Nick says , He means that everyone is fitting into one of those categories. According to this quote, there are four types of categories which are those who is being pursued, those who are pursuing, those who are busy and those who are tired. The characters in the novel are falling into these categories. For instance, Jordan, who is a profrofessional golfer and Daisy 's longtime friend, and Gatsby are pursuing by Nick, Gatsby is pursuing Daisy, The busy had to do something like Tom and Jordan, and the tired are barely had to do anything like Daisy or sometimes Nick. Fortunately, Nick believes that those categories ( being pursued, are pursuing, are busy and tired ) are true and based on the people that he
How wasteful! (An Analysis on Fitzgeralds ideas of waste in the American Dream) “Diamonds are a girl 's best friend” a quote by Marilyn Monroe easily defines materialism as an integral. Many people put simple goods over everything else and that 's all they spend their money on. Almost akin to a lifestyle midlife crisis, they only find joy from cars and clothes and fancy houses, and receiving cars and clothes and fancy houses. Citizens sacrifice relationships to obtain these materialistic objects and it shows how morbid an average lifestyle has become; especially after the twenties.
¨Take courage, you must give us all their names. How can you bear to see this child suffering? Look at her, Tituba. He is indicating Betty on the bed. Look at her God-given innocence; her soul is so tender; we must protect her, Tituba; the Devil is out and preying on her like a beast upon the mesh of the pure lamb.
Ambition is what propels people forward. It is what prevents people from quitting. It is what gives a person the drive and the passion to go after whatever he or she desires. It is what helps an individual to become a superior version of themselves. However, in certain cases, dreams, and aspirations do not always end up beneficial to a person.
Dear diary, Today was a leisure day. I visited Jay again, we set in his Study and talked. This was the first time I was invited into his Study; he was usually very careful about this part of his chambers, because of all those business stuff, I guess. Very unusual, indeed; but judging by the situation, I should be able to tell that unusual things are not that unusual anymore.
Gatsby’s “Greatness” Greatness is showed by the choices we make in life. From how we see the circumstances and how we react to them. Gatsby is not as great of a man as Nick claims that he is. Gatsby makes foolish, childish and delusional decisions and not at all great.
Imagine this. Kids having to run away from their families in order to survive. In the book called A Long Walk to Water it is about a boy in a true story and he has a book about his life by Linda Sue Park. A boy named Salva is determined, caring, and persistent.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a novel that depicts the American Dream; however, the American Dream cannot be established without running over a few people in the process. Gatsby the protagonist of the novel is known to deceive others and himself; however, his lies are not meant to hurt anyone. Gatsby is lost in his desire to be rich and have Daisy’s love, and in his desire forgets about how his actions may harm others. In addition, Gatsby only wanted to be more than his parents who were “shiftless and unsuccessful farm people” (98). Gatsby’s deception goes as far as fabricating who he is, his financial standing in the past; including how he makes his money, lying to Daisy, and allowing others to tell rumors about himself.
People are partying. The word of money fills in the air. People being miserable everywhere. These events were the daily lifestyle of people living in the 1920’s. The 1920’s was a prosperous time for America after World War I because after the war, the economy raised people’s hopes of being in the upper class.
In the text, The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald uses a wide range of literary techniques to convey a lack of spirituality, and immorality. Techniques such as characterisation, symbolism, and metaphors help to cement the ideas Fitzgerald explores. However, there are some features to this world that redeem it. Which are displayed through expert execution of techniques like characterisation, contrast, and repetition. The world of The Great Gatsby is home to many morally corrupt and spiritually empty characters however, the world itself is not a spiritual and moral wasteland.
Poor judgement is the stem of many issues, especially in the context of social situations. The blurred lines between right and wrong lead to poor choices and major complications, sometimes going as far as death. F. Scott Fitzgerald 's The Great Gatsby emphasises the idea that poor choices can lead to disastrous events. Nick Carraway is a close acquaintance of Jay Gatsby, who ends up interfering in Gatsby 's fate and fates of others. Ironically he does so by doing nothing.
"Life is more successfully looked at from a single window after, all" (9). This quote describes how Nick Carraway, the narrator of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, tells the story. The story is told as if the reader is looking through a single window looking in upon the characters. The audience only sees the thoughts and emotions of Nick. They see what he experiences, which suggests that the whole novel is told in the first person.
